Blackboard Tutorials & eLearning Resources

Below is a list of Blackboard Tutorial links and general eLearning information to help you succeed in your educational pursuits.

Accessing Course Materials
You can find the syllabus, class assignments, or other course materials using the Course Menu. The Course Menu consists of navigation buttons on the left side of your Blackboard page. The materials can be in several different formats, including html, text, audio, videos, and word processing documents. You must click a navigation button, such as Course Information, to see what documents are included in that section.

An instructor can attach a document for you to read. When a file is attached, it appears as a link. You must click on the link to access the information. Depending on your computer configuration, how the file was linked, and the type of file, several things may happen when you click on a link:

  • The link may open within Blackboard or in the browser window.
  • The link may open a new browser window or outside of Blackboard.
  • The link may prompt you with a dialog box, asking if you want to Save the file to your computer or Open to view it in the Internet window.

The link may launch a different program (such as Microsoft Word or Power Point) and display the file - unless you do not have the program. If you do not have Power Point or Word on your computer, you can download the free PowerPoint Viewer or Word Viewer from Microsoft's web site.

Assignments in Blackboard
During the fall and spring semester you will be responsible for completing a weekly assignment; however, two weekly assignments are required during the summer and ARROW terms. This assignment will count for your being present in class. If you miss an assignment, you will be counted absent. Only two absences are permitted with a drop occurring after the third absence. Your instructor will provide instructions on how to submit the assignment.

The My Grades tool allows you to see grades for assignments, quizzes, etc. Depending on your instructor's settings, this tool might display the grade, the points possible, the class average, and the weight (percentage of total grade) for each entry. To access the My Grades tool, click Student Tools and then click My Grades.

In compliance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), student usernames and passwords may not be given by phone, live chat, or email. All telephone, live chat, or email requests for student usernames and passwords will be mailed out daily to the permanent address on file for the student. We recommend that students store their usernames and passwords in safe locations so that this change has minimal affect on their schoolwork.

Usernames and passwords can be given out in person from the following locations:
Fulton Campus

  • TIS Helpdesk (TIS Office Building)
  • Learning Resource Center (LRC)

Tupelo Campus

  • Learning Resource Center (LRC)

All students have their username and password information mailed to them in their acceptance letters. If you have any questions, problems, or concerns, please contact the TIS Helpdesk at 662-862-8295 or 662-862-8100.

Taking an Assessment in Blackboard

Follow the steps below to begin taking an Assessment (Test, Quiz, or Survey):

  • Locate the Assessment in the Test Center.
  • Click the assessment name.
  • Click Begin to begin the Assessment.
  • In the gray box, note whether there is a time limit and whether you can take the test more than once.
  • Note the number of points allotted for each question (at right).
  • Answer each question as appropriate for the question type:
    • Multiple Choice: Select one answer only.
    • Multiple Answer: Select more than one answer.
    • Ordering: Use the pull-down menus to select the order.
    • Matching: Use the pull-down menus to select the letter that corresponds to each correct answer.
    • Essay/Short Answer: Type in your answer.
  • When you have answered all the questions, click Save and Submit. It is not recommended to use the Save All Answers button. Selecting the Save All Answers button could close the test prematurely and you will not be able to start the test again. Click OK.
  • If your instructor has made the results available immediately, click View Results to see how you did.

Note: If you are only allowed to take the test once, you must complete the test the first time it is launched. You cannot exit or close the test and continue working on it at a later date or time. Click Save and Submit to turn in your test for a grade. Do Not use the Backspace or Enter keys while taking the test. This will kick you out of the test, and you will not be able to start the test again.
