eLearning FAQ

How do I enroll in an online class, if I am currently enrolled through ICC?
Visit your advisor to make certain the online course meets your curriculum requirements. If the course is provided by ICC, your advisor may assist with registration, or you may web register for the class yourself. If the course is provided by another community college, however, you or your advisor must contact the eLearning Office (662-620-5350) for assistance.

How do I enroll in a class, if I am not an ICC student?
Before registering, you must follow college admission guidelines. Click here for Admissions information, you will have access to all necessary information (i.e. guidelines, application, financial aid, etc.). Notice in particular that you must print the Application for Admission form and submit it, along with original transcripts, to the Registrar/Admission's Office. Once this is accomplished, you may contact Student Affairs (662-862-8260) for an advisor or the eLearning Office (662-620-5350) for assistance.

The ICC Calendar will be observed. Click here for the ICC Calendar.

How will I access my class work?
Batch loading of students into courses by the MSVCC occurs during the weekend prior to the beginning of class. Letters from ICC are mailed to those who early register, so those registering later should observe the following directions. To access your online class, go to http://icc.blackboard.com and follow login instructions. Click on the ICC Student Home tab at the top. Notice your registered courses listed under "My Courses." Simply click on the link (in blue) to enter your online class. If you registered after the batch loading, please allow approximately 24 hours for access; however, if you continue to be denied access into your course during the first week of class, notify the eLC on your host campus. How many times am I required to come to a physical campus?
MSVCC policy states that instructors may require onsite attendance up to 25% of the class time, so read course information closely at the beginning of the semester for specific details. All online students enrolled in an ICC course are required to take at least two proctored tests during the semester. For test security a student will report to his area community college for a proctored mid-term test and a final exam. ICC students should schedule an appointment for tests at this site,
https://www.securedata-trans10.com/ap/itawambacommunitycollege1/index.php?page=10.
Host students should contact the designated proctor or eLC at the host campus to schedule testing. Click here for the list of approved statewide proctors.

How do I know what books to buy?
Information about class material, as well as the instructor, is found by clicking on the course in the schedule for online courses. Once you are registered you may go to the Student Profile to access requirements for books and supplies.

Where do I purchase my books?
Books may be purchased through the ICC Bookstore at 662-862-8205, from an online vendor, or from the community college bookstore providing the course. If you have financial aid, you must purchase texts through the host college. Remember that if you have the bookstore special order a book for you, the bookstore will not buy it back at the end of the semester. If you purchase from an online vendor, be sure to request two-day service if time is a factor. For more information click here.

How do I make contact with my online instructor?
Instructor contact information is located in the Course Detail and the Student Profile sites, as well as in the Instructor Information area of your online course.

How are assignments and quizzes handled?
Instructors for online classes vary in delivery and evaluation just as in traditional classrooms. Although some have several tests online, others use the discussion format with only a few tests.  Check course information in your course for specific guidelines.

Must the student own a computer and have Internet access?
The student MUST have access to a computer with Internet capability. Although the student may use computers on campus, the college does not guarantee availability of computers; therefore, the student is responsible for making this provision.

Does the student need special personal skills for success in online learning?
The student should be familiar with a search engine (Yahoo, Web Crawler, etc.), knowledgeable of e-mail functions (sending, receiving, and attaching files), comfortable with word processing software of choice, generally competent in Internet functions, and self-motivated and disciplined. To find out if eLearning is for you click here.

Is there a drop/add period?
Should withdrawal from an Internet class provided by ICC become necessary, the ICC eLearning Calendar will be followed. The student is responsible for completing the paperwork.
