ABE/GED Participant Guidelines

Compulsory School Aged Entrance Requirements:

To be considered for admission to the Itawamba Community College ABE/GED program, persons must meet one of the following conditions. Itawamba Community College reserves the right to admit or deny entrance into the GED program based upon the following criteria:

  1. The following official documentation from last high school attended:
    • Attendance records from current school year
    • High school transcript to include most recent achievement test scores
    • All disciplinary actions taken by high school
  2. Release form from County Attendance Officer. Compulsory School Aged persons must score a minimum of 9.0 in reading, mathematics, and language arts on TABE Level D administered by ICC faculty. The TABE test is administered Mondat, Tuesday, or Thursday mornings @ 8:00 a.m.
  3. Special Admission Criteria for sixteen-year-olds:
    • Medical condition including pregnancy that precludes an individual from attending school – Document is a letter from a medical doctor stating that the prospective student has a medical condition that will not allow the student to attend school.
    • Marriage – Documentation is a copy of marriage certificate.
    • Home Schooled – Documentation is a letter from the school district stating that the individual has been registered for home schooling. The letter includes the dates of the home schooling.

Probationary Period Requirements:

Failure to exhibit one or more of the following during the one-month probationary period will result in immediate dismissal of the student, and student will be remanded back to the local compulsory attendance officer:

  1. Attendance of all scheduled class meetings.
  2. Completion of all assigned work in a timely manner.
  3. Obtaining educational gains based on pre- and post-test TABE scores.
  4. Exhibiting respect toward teachers and other students.
  5. Exhibiting a positive attitude toward learning.
  6. Exhibiting maturity level sufficient to function in an adult setting on a community college campus.
  7. Abiding by all student agreement stipulations. See attachment.

For 17 and 18 Year Olds - Non-Compulsory School Aged Individuals

Entrance Requirements:

  • Withdraw / Drop letter signed by the Principal
  • Attendance records from current school year
  • High school transcript to include most recent achievement test scores
  • All disciplinary actions taken by high school
