Emergency Information - Tornado Warning

The City of Fulton has a severe weather warning system which will be activated in the event of a tornado.

The City of Tupelo has a weather alert system that will be activated by Lee 911.

When a tornado is confirmed, the alarm system (sirens) will be activated for approximately 1 minute only. It does not continue through the entire tornado warning. Faculty and staff will be notified when a severe thunderstorm warning exists by means of e-mail from Campus Police.

If a tornado is sighted. . .

  • Move to a designated place of safety.
  • DO NOT leave this area until the “all clear” is given by campus police. This information will be relayed through physical plant personnel located in your building and by telephone.

Listed below are steps to be taken in the event of a tornado.

  1. Do not panic - move quickly to a place of safety. Notify others along the way.
  2. Faculty – Do not dismiss class. Lead your students to the designated safe area in the building.

Residence Halls Safe Areas

  • Chickasaw Hall - First floor hallway away from windows. First floor vending and laundry areas.
  • Lee Hall - First floor hallway away from windows. First floor vending and laundry areas.
  • Monroe Hall - First floor hallway away from windows. First floor vending and laundry areas.
  • Monroe Annex - First floor hallway away from windows. First floor vending and laundry areas.
  • Pontotoc Hall - Rooms on first floor. Lobby and laundry areas away from windows.
  • Sheffield Hall - Hallways on bottom floor, both front and back buildings.
