"I couldnıt have had all of this success without the help of (current ICC tennis coach) Paul Johnson. Paul gets the credit of teaching my girls technique, while my job was to make them believe and create that competitive edge."

Mark Burleson

Mark Burleson of Tupelo was the first ever first-team All-American in the history of the Itawamba Community College baseball program. In fact, after his sophomore campaign in 1987, the outfielder also received the prestigious Rawlings Big Stick Award, which annually goes to the nationıs top hitter. That year, Burleson sported a .513 batting average, which is still the single season school record at ICC and drove in 68 runs. He was a first-team all-state and Region 23 selection in both the 1986 and Œ87 seasons.

According to his Hall of Fame head coach Roy Cresap, "Mark was the best hitter I ever coached and one of my all-time favorites." After graduating from ICC, he transferred to Ole Miss, where he led the SEC in hitting in both seasons before an injury ended each campaign.

"This honor means a lot because itıs coming from a college that means a lot to me," said Burleson, who is now Tupelo Division president for BancorpSouth. "ICC was a great experience for me and thatıs why Iıve stay connected to the College through the years."
