Future Radiologic Technology Club
Radiologic Technology ProgramThe Future Radiologic Technology club at Itawamba Community College consists of all the currently enrolled students in the program. Once accepted into the program you will become a member. The FRT holds an annual Welcome to the Program Cookout for all entering freshmen. It gives everyone in the club a chance to meet and have fun at the same time. The FRT considers it important for everyone to know each other and become friends.
The club is active in many fund raisers. The biggest fund raiser is for the annual Mississippi Society of Radiologic Technologists (MSRT) convention held each year at various places. The club sells wrapping paper, Home Interior candles, candy, chances on various items, etc. The money raised helps pay for registration, meals, room and gas. The convention is an important event for the FRT. Each year two student delegates are chosen at the convention. These delegates make sure that the students voice and opinions are heard. The convention is also an exciting and fun event. People come from all over the United States to speak. This year we had the opportunity to meet Dr. Bushong, the writer of "Radiologic Sciences of Technologists", one of our many textbooks.
The Technologists with whom we work throughout the program are very important to our education. Each year the Technologists are recognized during Tech Week. The FRT provides snacks and drinks to let them know how much we appreciate them. Students are also acknowledged during this week since we are the Future Radiologic Technologists!
The FRT also holds a Christmas party each year. We usually buy a $10 gift and play games with the gifts. This past year we chose numbers and took our turns at stealing the other person's gift. It is a fun time for all considering that we have a vacation and will not see the rest of the club for several weeks. The FRT raises money to buy our instructors a little something for the holiday also. We like to add a bit of fun into our learning schedules.
Also, we have the opportunity to choose a charity event such as the Special Olympics in which to participate. The club has many options. It is now a requirement for the program, and the FRT looks forward to taking part in our community.
The club has also provided study sessions to cover some of the more difficult material. It helps to know that more students are having the same problem with the material. We work as a group to put all the information into place. The study sessions have worked well in the past. Many club members have improved their performance through these sessions.
The FRT looks forward to meeting new club members and we hope to see you at the cookout.
