On January 11, 2007 Itawamba Community College debuted its $15.6
million Davis Event Center in front of more than 2,000 fans. The Lady
Indians basketball team halted Holmes in the first game at the new
state-of-the-art facility.
Named after Itawamba Community College basketball coaching legends
Windle (Buster) Davis and Kindle (Bud) Davis, the Davis Event Center
houses all basketball operations for both the men's and women's
basketball teams, including dressing rooms, training rooms and coaches'
offices. The Event Center, which also hosts graduation ceremonies and
concerts, has a fixed chair-back seating capacity of 2,800 and can
expand that capacity to 3,500 with the pull-out seating on both sides of
the floor.
A corridor connects the Davis Event Center to the new Fitness Center,
which has weight training, aerobics and cardiovascular rooms. In
addition, the Fitness Center, which was a $2.6 million project, contains
four classrooms for health and physical education curriculum and an
intramural gym that will accommodate basketball, volleyball and tennis.
The Fitness Center opened in mid-October 2006.
The Davis Event Center and Fitness Center have a combined square
footage of approximately 120,000, the largest project in school history.
"We're so excited to have such a state-of-the-art facility on our
campus," said ICC Athletic Director Carrie Ball-Williamson. "I've had so
many (NCAA) Division 1 coaches tell me that they would love to have a
place like this on their campus, which makes us even more proud."
Itawamba awarded Jesco, Inc., the construction contract for the Davis
Event Center and the Fitness Center in March 2005, while the architect
overseeing the project was The McCarty Company Design Group, P.A.,
Tupelo.
