  []  Nichols/Moore named MVP's at soccer banquet (1/20/2010)

Itawamba Community College officially wrapped up its soccer seasons by hosting its annual awards banquet in the banquet rooms of the Student Services Building on the Fulton campus. The most valuable players were goalkeeper Meagan Nichols of Tupelo for the Lady Indians and defender Tyler Moore of Pontotoc for the Indians.

Meagan Nichols was also recognized for her two-time all-state selection and sharing team captain responsibility this year with Ashley Symes. Symes, who also was a two-time all-state selection at defender along with yet another former Tupelo High standout, midfielder Rhea McCord, was named most outstanding defensive player and received the Indian Award. McCord was named the squad's most outstanding offensive player.

Meghan Brown of Tupelo also received her all-state and all-Region 23 plaques and also brought home the 2009 top goal scorer award. Lauren Nichols of Tupelo was the 2009 top assist honoree and Cordova, Tenn. native Katelynn Davis received the hustle award.

On the men's side, the MVP Moore also received plaques for most outstanding defensive player, hustle award and all-state. For the second straight year, Tupelo's Colt Snell (defender) received his all-state plaque. The most outstanding offensive player was midfielder Collin Burchfield of Pontotoc and Caryl Vogel, also of Pontotoc, received the Indian Award. Vogel and Josh Harlow of Pontotoc were also recognized for sharing team captains this past season.
  []  Former ICC standout makes all-American (11/25/2009)

David Schumaker, who holds nearly every offensive soccer record at Itawamba Community College, has been named to the NCCAA All-American squad for his play this fall at Atlanta Christian College. Back in mid-October, the striker from Jacksonville, Ala., was named National Player of the Week after scoring a total of four goals and adding six assists against St. Louis Christian and Lincoln Christian College.

"I knew when David moved on, he would continue to do the same things he did here at ICC, which was to score goals and hand out assists," said Itawamba head coach Mike Sullivan. "David is a special player because he works so hard and he just finds a way every game to make a difference for his team."

Schumaker left ICC, where he was an all-state and all-Region 23 performer both years, holding the single season record for goals (24), assists (19), and points (67); he also holds the career marks for assists (24) and points (86) and is second in goals scored. Schumaker will graduate from ACC doing exactly the same there as he did at ICC; he owns the single season school records for goals (26), assists (13), and points (65). He will also own the career marks as well, goals (43), assists (19), and points (105).

"I am very proud of David to have been named All-American as that is certainly a very prestigious honor," added Sullivan. "And who knows, maybe one day we'll see him playing on TV in the pro's."
  []  ICC's Brown makes all-Region first team (11/24/2009)

Meghan Brown of Itawamba Community College made the first team all-Region 23 women's soccer squad. The former Tupelo High standout led the Lady Indians in scoring with 14 goals despite missing four games due to an injury.

"Meghan was a great player for us this year," said ICC head coach Mike Sullivan, who has led his Lady Indians to the post-season all three years he's been at the helm of the program. "Every game she always had to deal with the other teams best defender and yet she still led the team in goals and had she not missed those games early in the season, I'm betting she would have been among the league leaders in scoring. Meghan is very deserving of this award and she will be missed next season."

Joining Brown, who also had two assists this fall, on the all-state team were three more former Lady Wave standouts from THS; goalkeeper Megan Nichols, who allowed an average of only one and a half goals a game, defender Ashley Symes and midfielder Rhea McCord, who led the team with 10 assists to go along with her three goals. It was the second year in a row that all four of these Lady Indians made the all-state listing.

A pair of ICC Indians made the all-state squad, as well. Tupelo defender Colt Snell, who also received this honor both years at the College, and freshman defender Tyler Moore of Pontotoc.
