Community
involvement is a priority for all of Itawamba Community College's athletic
programs, including head coach Chad Case's softball team. Case, who is in
his first year in charge of the Lady Indians, has his players tutoring
weekly at the "A Way Out" program, which is available to any student in
Itawamba County.
"Anytime we have the opportunity to give back to the community, we will
do so," said Case, who had been an ICC assistant baseball coach the last
five years. 'A Way Out' is a first class program, and we're happy to help
Coach (Shaun) Holiday in any way possible."
Holiday
is in charge of this service that is open to any student inside Itawamba
County from third grade to high school seniors. Tutors are available every
Monday through Thursday from 3-6 p.m. in all subject areas. "The kids have shown significant improvement from the previous six weeks
to this past six weeks on their report cards," said Holiday, who is an
assistant baseball coach to Brian Long at Itawamba AHS. "I appreciate Coach
Case and his team along with all of the other tutors, who have done an
outstanding job relating to the kids and their needs."
Holiday
added that 65-80 students show up each day to take advantage of this free
service. He also expressed appreciation to the community for all donations
that have contributed to the success of the program. For more information,
contact Holiday at 255-5305.
