For the third time in the last year, Itawamba Community College head tennis coach Paul Johnson has received a major coaching honor. This time, the long-time ICC head coach was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Hall of Fame. Johnson recently led his Indians to another top 20 finish at the National Tournament in Plano, Texas.

"This is something I've been looking forward to hopefully receiving one day," said Johnson, who started his coaching career in football at Ackerman High School in 1972 has been at Itawamba coaching tennis for 34 years. "When you look at all of the wonderful coaches that have been a part of the NJCAA through the years, and you get singled out, you can see why this is such an honor for me, my family and everyone connected to ICC."

Back in December, the Nettleton native was selected as the Mississippi Tennis Association Coach of the Year for 2008. This award, which was given to Johnson at the association's annual Awards Luncheon in Jackson, was based on the accomplishments he has had during his first thirty-three years he has been at ICC.

Late last spring, Johnson was honored nationally by the NJCAA Tennis Coaches Association by receiving the prestigious Hershel Stephens Award for outstanding service and dedication to NJCAA tennis.

Johnson and his wife, Brenda, along with his daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Paul Craft of Atlanta, GA and son Mitch, who lives in Booneville, were present at the presentation just outside of Dallas, where his Indians finished 17th in the country.
