Advancement Opportunities
Developmental Studies (Fulton Campus)
Itawamba Community College offers developmental courses in English, mathematics, reading, and study skills. Students who score less than 16 composite Enhanced ACT and/or less than 16 in English, mathematics or reading will be encouraged to enroll in appropriate developmental courses. A student requesting another test may take the Compass Test by ACT for a fee. Each course is designed to strengthen students' basic skills to enable them to be successful in other college classes. The developmental classes stress understanding and retention of material through lecture, workbooks, individual tutoring by both instructor and peers, audio and video tapes, and computer programs. Minimum competencies and established objectives are used as course requirements. Institutional credit is awarded for developmental courses, and these credits may be counted in the total number of credit hours required for graduation from Itawamba Community College.
Skills Enhancement Program (Tupelo Campus)
Itawamba Community College offers skills enhancement courses in Beginning Algebra, Beginning English Composition, and Introduction to Microcomputers for students enrolling in programs on the Tupelo Campus. Students who score less than 16 composite on the enhanced ACT and/or less than 16 in English or Mathematics will be encouraged to enroll in appropriate skills enhancement courses before taking more advanced collegiate level courses.
The primary objective of the skills enhancement courses is to prepare individuals and members of special populations for entry into one of the college's early career education programs. Instruction is student-centered and computer-assisted to maximize learning opportunities in the fundamentals of technology and applied academics. Classes are semester-length and available 12 months a year.
