Getting Started at ICC

picture 23Itawamba Community College provides a broad range of services for its students. College personnel are available for students who desire assistance in academic, social, or personal areas. Students are encouraged to avail themselves of any services offered by the college.

Freshman Orientation

In an effort to simplify and ease the transition to college, Itawamba Community College conducts an intensive orientation program. Orientation actually begins when college officials visit seniors at the high schools in the five-county area to inform them of the programs available, as well as financial aid information. Orientation continues when students report by major areas of study for early registration. During which students are given detailed information concerning academic affairs, business affairs, and student services. Students then meet with advisors and/or counselors to plan a program of study and to schedule classes. With the opening of the college, orientation continues as the college sponsors dances, picnics, etc. in an effort to help students get acquainted and adjust.

Advisement and Counseling

Each student is assigned a faculty advisor for assistance in planning a program of study. Advisors also assist students in both scheduling and providing general information. A professional counseling staff is also available to assist students with academic, personal, and social problems.

Counseling and Career Centers

The Counseling and Career Centers maintain information relating to careers and colleges and universities. Whether a student needs direction choosing a major, planning a career or making a career change, the Career Centers have a variety of programs to help. Choices, a computerized career exploration program is available to assist students in the process of self-assessment. Written interest inventories, career information files, labor market information and college catalogs are resources used by students as aids in developing a career plan. The Career Centers also have a computerized resume program which can provide students with a finished resume.

Registration

The registration process at Itawamba Community College is simple, easy and conducted on a personal basis. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor to assist with the selection of a major, selecting courses and planning a schedule.

All academic or technical (day or evening) students should refer to the SCHEDULES section for dates, times, and procedures.

Students wishing to register for Continuing Education, Adult Education, Workforce Development Center or other short term courses should contact the appropriate office for detailed information.
