“The Best Start” Class
Instructors: Bronson Prochaska, Mary Robin Coggin, Jeff Carter, Marc Simmons, and Brad Boggs

Selection Criteria: high school graduates, Residential students, ACT of 17 or less
Student Notification Process: All residential students meeting these criteria will be notified by Housing Department instructing them to register for class. During Orientation, note will be made on registration form indicating that student is required to complete this course. Students must successfully complete the course in order to remain in the residence halls spring semester.

A, B, C, D, & E Monday & Wednesday
I, J, & K Tuesday & Thursday(Each class meeting will be 50 minutes in length with classes beginning September 8 and ending October 30)
Textbook: Compiled by Student Affairs and given to students at first class meeting.
Course Objectives: The Best Start is designed to increase the student's potential for success in college by assisting the student in obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to reach his/her educational objectives. There are many reasons students are not successful in college: inadequate preparation for college; poor study skills; family pressures; financial problems; and inappropriate choices about time management, friends, and alcohol. This course will assist students in managing change, provide training in the areas of time management, study habits, note taking skills, and leadership potential.
