Need to Change Your Major but Unsure What to Select?

Are you confident that you want to change your major, but are undecided about what new major to declare? Do you need to explore an alternative major to the program you were originally pursuing?

While choosing a college major is an exploratory process that involves careful investigation and responsible decision making, Itawamba Community College offers several resources to assist you.

The Advising Center helps to foster a respectful and meaningful relationship between advisor and advisee. The Advising Center also provides student seminars throughout the fall and spring semesters. These seminars include a variety of topics including How to Choose a Major.

The Career Center assists students with the various stages of career development, including self-assessment, career exploration, narrowing choices, and helping students to gain experience through volunteering and job openings. You are encouraged to take advantage of the multitude of resources that the Career Center offers.

Counseling Services ICC's Counseling Services' academic counselors facilitate the social and academic behavior of students, who may utilize their academic advising, career, and social counseling services.

The Student Success Center is a central location for students to find connections to all campus resources, programs and services. The centers provide a variety of resources including assistance in evaluating interests and work values' Workshops include topics that aid students in obtaining skills desirable by employers.

Five Signs You Should Change Your Major*

  1. Are you uninterested in your current major courses?
  2. Are you doing poorly in your current major courses?
  3. Did you choose your current major without much thought?
  4. Do you keep reading and asking about other majors?
  5. Do you continue to think about changing your major?

If you identify with three or more of these questions, then it is probably time for you to make a change. Even if you identified with only one or two of these statements, it is recommended that you talk with an academic advisor or contact the Career Center to discuss your thoughts to help guide you in the decision making process.
