ICC's Waters completes MDA's Ambassadors program TZ Waters of Tupelo, lead workforce instructor with Itawamba Community College, is a recent graduate of the Mississippi Development Authority Ambassadors program. The program encourages the development of collaboration skills to address communities’ challenges. One of the goals of the Ambassadors program is to convey to community members how critical teamwork and participation are to a city or town. The program is designed to show a way for communities to become more attractive to employers, families, individuals and visitors. Waters was a part of the Monroe County group, whose project focused on a partnership with six competing financial institutions who partnered with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce to hold homeowner workshops. Their purpose is to educate prospective homeowners about how to purchase a home and to allow them to meet bankers and mortgage specialists who can provide guidance. ICC offers FAFSA Fridays Itawamba Community College’s Financial Aid offices have scheduled FAFSA Fridays to assist prospective students with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. ICC staff members will be available to assist with completion of the online form as well as to answer any questions at both the Fulton and Tupelo campus offices, which are located in the Student Services buildings. Students are encouraged to visit the Tupelo Campus office, if possible because of the availability of more computers. The FAFSA is the form used by the U.S. Department of Education to determine eligibility for federal, state and college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, educational loans and work-study programs, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid at ICC. Pathways to Construction Employment set to begin Feb. 27 Registration is underway for a Pathway to Construction Employment program, which will begin Feb. 27 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). The sessions will meet Feb. 27, 28 and Mar. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Topics include basic safety, construction math, introduction to hand tools and power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication and employability skills and introduction to material handling. Business Office Specialist program Itawamba Community College is offering a 15-week business office specialist program that will begin Feb. 20 at the Belden Center. Meetings will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, through June 7. The program is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification in MS Excel and MS Word. 2018 Pack the House Itawamba Community College alumni members and their families will receive free admission upon presentation of their ID to the fifth annual Pack the House, which will be Jan. 25 at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. There will also be an opportunity to meet members of ICC’s spring sports teams. ICC will play East Mississippi Community College with the women’s basketball game beginning at 6 p.m., and the men’s at 8 p.m. Additionally, ICC’s spring sports teams will participate in Meet the Tribe events. The softball and tennis teams will be recognized during halftime of the women’s game and be available for signing schedule posters; and the baseball and golf teams, during the men’s games. Area baseball and softball players wearing their team jerseys will be admitted free when accompanied by a parent. They should enter through the Davis Event Center main lobby. They include Kami Clark of Amory, assistant softball coach; Chris Moses of Plantersville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Linzy Patterson of Amory, adult basic education/high school equivalency instructor; Megan Ragsdale of Fulton, housekeeping; Angeelas Shannon of Tupelo, adult basic education administrative assistant and bookkeeper; Jimmy Whitehead of Booneville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Shundria Whitfield of Nettleton, adult basic education instructor; and Greg Yarbrough of Fulton, WIOA career coach. Clark earned the associate’s degree at ICC and is working toward the bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi. Moses previously served as HVAC instructor at Pinnacle Career Institute in Kansas City, Mo. His educational background includes the associate’s degree in robotics/automated systems from ICC.
