PURPOSE
The Itawamba Community College Early Childhood Education centers at the Fulton and Tupelo campuses provide students majoring in Early Childhood Education opportunities to observe, interact and teach young, potty-trained children, three-to-five years of age in an environment that practices current principles of early childhood education. We provide high quality preschool/child care for faculty, staff, students and community members.
PHILOSOPHY
Itawamba Community College believes that all children should be cared for in a safe, nurturing environment. The centers are set up as developmentally appropriate learning environments, and the teachers implement the Mississippi Early Learning Standards to prepare children for school. We believe that children learn best by doing and being actively engaged in the learning process. Play is a child’s work.
TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS
The teachers in our three classrooms have Associate of Applied Science degrees in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) and are CPR Certified. Our centers are licensed with the Mississippi Department of Health.
HOURS
Our preschool centers are open during the regular academic school year:
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.
We are closed during the summer and other school holidays, as well as when the school is closed due to inclement weather.
