AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY

ICC offers students a second chance at completing a high school equivalency diploma through classes offered in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties. Available services through the classes include GED® and HiSET® exam preparation that can lead to a Mississippi High School Equivalency Diploma, ACT® WorkKeys® preparation and score improvement. Work-readiness, reading, math and writing refresher skills are also offered to individuals seeking to improve their employability or educational skills, even if they already hold a high school credential.

Persons interested in enrolling in classes must be out of school and at least 16 years of age or older. Those who are 16 and 17 years old must provide an official school withdrawal form prior to enrolling in class. Call 662.407.1510 for more information about enrolling in a class.

SMART START

The Smart Start credential is designed to help students gain the skills they need to be successful in today’s economy. The program prepares students for middle-skill jobs such as machinists, registered nurses, computer technicians, medical assistants and many other opportunities by helping them learn and practice good work habits and the effective communications skills needed to secure meaningful employment.

Smart Start students are prepared to take the WorkKeys® test, which includes applied math, graphic literacy and workplace documents and qualifies students for the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Employers seek candidates with an NCRC regardless of the candidate’s educational background. The certificate signals to employers that students have the skills necessary to be effective in a job.

MiBEST

The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MIBEST) program is a workforce and economic development initiative that moves low-skilled, non-credentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages. The program prioritizes individuals who did not complete a traditional high school degree, those in low-wage jobs and other nontraditional students. MIBEST seeks to increase the number of these students who can secure jobs with a livable wage and scale the integrated career pathways available to Mississippians through the state’s community colleges.

ESL

The ESL program is the specialized part of ICC's Adult Education that addresses the needs of adult English Language Learners. The ESL program provides instruction in English-language skills for reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension. Classes also provide instruction in U.S. citizenship, civics preparation, career awareness, job readiness, career pathway identification and test preparation for high school equivalency exams.
