An ICC faculty or staff member who will assist you in reviewing the services and policies at ICC and making appropriate course selection based on your program of study as well as discuss educational and career plans. One of the greatest resources you have at ICC is your assigned academic adviser. It is very important that you get to know your adviser and the many advantages that he or she can offer you while at ICC.

Academic advisers are assigned based on several factors including ACT, program of study and location attending.

Your assigned adviser’s name is in myTribe and on your ICC app. To locate in the ICC app or myTribe, log in, then click on your name at the top right, and the adviser’s name and contact information are under My Info. You may also find his or her email, telephone number, office location and office hours at https://www.iccms.edu/EmployeeDirectory.

At ICC, students are required to meet with their advisers at least once every semester before final exams. However, advisers are available throughout the year and can meet with students whenever it is necessary. You should plan to meet with your adviser if you are considering the following:

• Selecting courses
• Dropping or adding a course
• Changing your major
• Struggling in your classes
• Looking for extracurricular opportunities or if you
• Have questions about class requirements
• While there are other times that you can meet with your adviser, the reasons above are some of the crucial times throughout your college career when you should seek guidance.

Appointments are always important due to the varied schedule of faculty and staff advisers. Students may contact advisers via email or phone. Allow 24 hours for your assigned adviser to contact you.

When meeting with your adviser, it is important to be prepared with any questions you have concerning your academic future. Some questions you may want to ask your adviser include:

• What requirements must I meet in order to earn my degree at ICC?
• Will my class credits transfer to another college or university?
• How many classes do I have to complete each semester for scholarships?
• How many classes do you recommend each semester?
• Should I take summer classes?
• What college resources would be beneficial to me?
• Can I change my major, and, if so, how?
• Do you have any advice or tips for me?

ICC has dedicated advisers to help you through this process. You do not have to have a career option or major selected in order to register for classes. It is recommended that you notify your adviser that you will need some guidance while selecting your classes, since you are unsure on major or career option. It is wise to pick classes from ICC’s general core requirements until you decide on a major.

Changing your major at ICC is a very simple process.

1. Log in to myTribe portal using your username and password.
2. Select School Services.
3. Select Student Services.
4. Select Change Major.
5. Use the drop down arrow located at the bottom of the page to select a new major.
6. Select a reason for changing majors.
7. Choose Submit.

The change of major will be processed within 24-48 hours by the Advising Center. You will receive a confirmation email to your ICC account with your new major and adviser assignment.

You must meet with your assigned adviser during the advising period each semester to discuss your upcoming semester. The adviser will submit an advising planning form through the myTribe portal. To register for classes, you must agree to the advising planning form to be cleared for registration. The advising planning form is a list of recommended courses for which you need to register for the upcoming semester.

The advising planning form must be agreed upon so that you may register for classes. To agree to the planning form each semester, you must complete the following steps.

1. Log in to the myTribe portal using your Username and Password.
2. Select School Services.
3. Select Student Services.
4. Select Registration.
5. Select Advising Planning Forms.
6. Select the upcoming term.
7. Choose Submit.
8. A short survey will display concerning your academic adviser and your experience. Select submit after choosing an answer to each question.
9. Once the survey is complete, the Advising Planning Form created during the advising session will display.
10. Review the Advising Planning form for the current semester and select the I Agree button to accept the planning form.
11. Once the form is approved, you may register for courses. If changes are made to your planning form after this point, you might have to approve again in order to register for classes.

IMPORTANT: Remember, after you agree to your Advising Planning Form, you still MUST register for your courses on the appropriate registration dates and times.

Visit the ICC home page at www.iccms.edu and scroll down to the Class Schedule picture. You can search for classes by semester, by subject and by category tabs (Fulton, Tupelo, Belden, Online, ZOOM).

Certain types of holds on your student account could possibly stop you from registering for classes. To check for holds, log in to myTribe, click on your name in the upper right corner, scroll down to “Alerts.” If you have a hold, visit that department to find out how to get have the hold removed from your account.

After you have met with your adviser and agreed to your advising planning form, you must choose times and dates for the courses listed on your planning form.
