PROGRAM OVERVIEW
THE PROGRAM
Practical Nursing is a one-year (three-semester) program. Upon completion, the graduate will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The program admits students twice a year, once in August (fall start) with graduation in July and once in January (spring start) with graduation in December. This program requires prerequisite courses and a minimum ACT score of 16. The prerequisites are located under the Program Admission Information and Procedures document below under the resources tab.
THE PROFESSION
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work under the direction of Registered Nurses and physicians. They provide direct patient care, including treatments and medication delivery. Licensed Practical Nurses work in many settings, including nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, physicians' offices, schools and private homes.
THE PAY
The median annual wage for Licensed Practical Nurses is $49,050.
THE FUTURE
The U.S. Bureau of Labor projects 16,900 openings annually for 2024-2030 with employment projected to grow 3%.
