Itawamba Community College’s Pathway programs are designed to prepare individuals with the high-performance skills necessary to enter the job market or to transition to an advanced related program at the College. Currently, 18 programs are offered at the ICC Belden Center to equip students to become quality employees. Upon completion of the program of study, students earn a certificate of completion or appropriate credential.
COURSE SCHEDULE
The Pathway to Employment in Construction program is a nationally-recognized certification for Construction Core designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The curriculum includes construction math, power and hand tools, construction site safety, construction drawings, employability, communication skills and introduction to material handling. Successful participants who pass the NCCER examination will be eligible for entry-level construction jobs.
Time Commitment: 70-hour program; Meets Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The Business Office Specialist program is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students will have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks® certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Excel and Word. In addition, participants will receive instruction and training in performance of technical office tasks, basic math, fundamentals of bookkeeping and basic human resource management.
Time Commitment: 16 weeks, two nights per week, 120 hours

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program consists of students completing BOTH the Medical Administrative Assistant AND the Phlebotomy Technician courses offered at Itawamba Community College. Together, these courses will prepare individuals to perform basic clinical and administrative duties typically performed in a healthcare office setting. Medical assistants perform duties such as:

The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the examination, nursing assistants can find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a CNA provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession.
Time Commitment: Approximately 96 hours. Evening classes, but occasionally day classes are offered. Clinicals must be completed at a nursing home.

The Commercial Truck Driving program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough knowledge of log books, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
Time Commitment: Four weeks, 160 hours; Classes meet Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The Distribution Associate program is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to find entry-level employment at an advanced manufacturing and distribution facility. Students will participate in both classroom sessions and hands-on activities to prepare them to perform proper material handling techniques, while adhering to safety standards that are common in a distribution or manufacturing setting. Additionally, students will learn how to properly operate equipment that includes a Standup Rider (Class 1), Order Selector (Class 2) and LP Gas Powered Sit-down Forklift (Class 4).

The program prepares individuals as electrician assistants to work closely with their supervising electrician to perform routine electrical work. It provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential wiring. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic) is an instructional course that prepares individuals to function in the pre-hospital environment. The EMT course provides instruction in basic life support care of sick and injured persons. This includes airway assessment; communications; documentation; general pharmacology; hemorrhage control; ambulance operations; splinting of adult, pediatric and infant patients and special care of patients exposed to heat, cold radiation or contagious diseases. Participants in the program intern with an ambulance service providing advanced life support services to the community.
Time Commitment: 16 weeks, two nights per week, 135 clock hours

Credentials: Certificate of Completion; Participants must pass the National Registry Exam to become a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), which is a requirement for admission into the Emergency Medical Sciences Technology – Paramedic program in the Health Science division at ICC.
During this hands-on, four-week class, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Students will experience the following training opportunities: ServSafe® Food Manager Certification, ServSafe® Alcohol Certification, menu planning preparation, assist/participate in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations.

The Google IT Support Certificate program is designed to prepare learners for entry-level jobs in IT support. The certificate program is fully online and is offered by Itawamba Community College in collaboration with Google. Topics covered include troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration and security.
Time Commitment: Online: Self-Paced. Students should typically commit 10-15 hours per week for 16 weeks.
Enrollment Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age (parental consent form is required if under 18).

This program prepares individuals as an assistant to work closely with their supervising human resources supervisor to perform routine personnel-related, recruitment and/or onboarding work. This program is ideal for someone who would like to enter the human resources and/or talent management field. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Essentials of Human Resources, which is the curriculum used, provides an introductory overview of key HR topics and the fundamental issues surrounding HR to help the individual effectively approach the daily issues and situations presented on the job

The Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program is designed to prepare students desiring a career in high- performance manufacturing to be successful. The program enables participants to use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and earn nationally-recognized credentials. The MSBC program was developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the Northeast Mississippi region. Comprehensive interactive classes, computer-based tools, experienced instructors and excellent reference materials create a valuable training experience. Students will learn how to read a caliper, micrometer and blueprint drawing; learn how to perform CPR; what companies do to improve and ensure safety, productivity and quality of their processes and products and improve their computer skills.

This program is designed to teach students the administrative and clerical skills necessary to be successful in a medical office environment. Students will be given the foundational knowledge needed to successfully obtain the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The curriculum enables students to perform duties such as maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments and coordinating operation reports in multiple medical office settings. Upon successful completion of the course, students may find employment at general physician offices, urgent care centers or specialty practices.

This program prepares students for an entry-level pharmacy technician position in both institutional and community pharmacy settings. A pharmacy technician is an individual, who under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the day-to-day pharmacy operations that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Graduates are eligible to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
Time Commitment: 16 weeks, one night per week - 48 hours.

The Phlebotomy Technician prepares students to obtain blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis. Participants who successfully complete the program will be eligible for employment as phlebotomy technicians in Mississippi hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and other healthcare settings; and with successful completion of classroom work and clinicals, students are eligible to test for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.
Time Commitment: 13 weeks, two nights per week, 48 hours classroom + 100 hours clinical

In this 16-session program, students can prepare for a career as they develop small engine repair skills. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair business or open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination. Students will learn to perform basic maintenance on small engines, the recoil systems function and how to maintain and repair it, ignition systems/electrical circuits and how to maintain and repair them and how to disassemble and rebuild small engines.

This class is designed to give the student entry-level skills in welding and cutting. The intent is to prepare students to do very basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. This class can also be useful to the small farmer or business owner who has many do-it-yourself projects. Different types of welding are emphasized. The class includes a basic introduction to oxy-fuel cutting, welding safety, voltage regulation and setting wire feed speeds as well as a lot of “hands-on” practice. Students will learn to discuss and apply proper safety procedures for welding, practice safety procedures for both GMAW and SMAW welding operations as well as oxy-fuel cutting operations.
