The Workforce Development and Training program at ICC provides a variety of opportunities and services for business, industry, government and community organizations, including the following:
State training projects provide more than $1 million each year in reimbursements to area organizations to offset their training expenses. The WD&T program is a cost-effective way to improve the area workforce as a result of the state’s commitment to support the program and each company’s contribution. Partnering to share costs creates a winning situation for both the companies and the state.
Documentation of all training is required in accordance with state guidelines. Meeting customer needs while balancing accountability procedures is paramount to the success of this program. For more information concerning Workforce Development and Training, call 662.407.1530.
Pre-Employment Assistance
The Workforce Development and Training staff members assist business and industry with pre-employment activities, which may include recruiting as well as testing and training of prospective employees (provided such activities may be conducted in large enough groups). Pre-employment activities can be customized for a particular business or industry's needs.
Rapid Response
An early intervention service offered to businesses and workers affected by major layoffs and plant closing, Rapid Response is the first step to assist workers facing a job loss. The Rapid Response Team, including representatives of local and state agencies such as the community college, WIN Job Center, Department of Human Services and others, meets with workers to provide information about services and programs available as they transition to a new job. The team responds to WARN by official notice received by the State DWU or Non-WARN through media coverage, company contacts, local contacts, etc. Contact the local program coordinator at 662.407.1521.
Tax Credit for Training Assistance
The Mississippi Code of 1972, Section 57-73-25, as amended, provides for employer income tax credit for certain employee training programs. Workforce Development Center staff can provide a copy of this code to interested companies. However, should a company decide to pursue the usage of the tax credit, it is the responsibility of that company to maintain all documentation relative to the auditing of such credit. Qualified training programs include basic academic skills training in reading, writing and mathematics up to the twelfth grade level and retraining programs that lead to opportunities for employee advancement. This training must be delivered through one of Mississippi's 15 community colleges.
