Testing Services for Registration

American College Test (ACT) scores or the ACCUPLACER assessment are used to place students at their demonstrated level of academic achievement. Advisers assist students in enrolling in appropriate courses based on the student's scores.

  • 2012 and subsequent graduates who score in the lowest level of placement in two disciplines will be limited to 14 hours in their first semester at ICC.
  • 2012 and subsequent graduates who are placed in the lowest level of developmental courses, and who are full-time, must take the prescribed developmental courses during their first semester. 
  • Part-time students must begin the developmental sequence no later than when 12 credit hours have been earned.
  • Online courses will be available through ICC for each developmental course.


ACCUPLACER is a computer-based assessment given for free to students. Placement testing, which is used to determine the strengths and needs of students in English, Mathematics and Reading, assists with selection of the most appropriate program and course options. Courses requiring scores for placements are all Biology, English, History, Mathematics, Physical Science and Reading Scores.

The ACCUPLACER Assessment is available on the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. For additional information concerning ACCUPLACER, please call 662.862.8039.

Students are encouraged to take the ACCUPLACER Assessment prior to Open Registration Dates. Only the first score for each segment is used in determining placement.

American College Test (ACT)

The National ACT is administered on the Fulton campus, and the Residual ACT is given on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. 

Students desiring to take the Residual ACT will be required to pay a testing fee of $39 at the Business Office at their campus of choice (Tupelo or Fulton) at least one day before the test date. On the day of the test, students who have paid should report to the Language Building Room 22 on the Fulton campus or the Health Science Building, Health Science Auditorium on the Tupelo campus. 

Requirements, that students should bring:

  • I.D. - Current Official Photo ID, School Identification Letter, or Notarized statement with Photo.
  • #2 Pencils - No mechanical pencils allowed.
  • Receipt of payment.
  • Must be a least a senior in high school.
  • Calculator (optional) - Visit www.actstudent.org for list of prohibited calculators.

Note: Very Important!

  • If you have taken the Accuplacer, the ACT is also required to meet admission requirements if you are 23 years of age and younger.
  • The Residual ACT is accepted for Admission at ICC only.
  • The Residual ACT does not qualify for MTAG, MESG, or various County Tuition Assistance Grants.
  • You must wait at least 60 days in between each Residual ACT.
  • Dates may change without notice.
  • There will be no test given in October.

National ACT testing dates are established by American College Testing Services. Advance registration is required. Students taking the National Test should report to the Fulton campus by 7:45 a.m. to prepare for testing which begins at 8 a.m. Students should bring an admission ticket and proper identification. Testing time is approximately four hours.
