Mental Health Awareness

Mental health concerns, including increased anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide, are increasing nationwide as a result of the pandemic. Issues from destruction of retirement investments, unemployment, COVID deaths, food insecurity and global warming have taken their toll.

In addition, the transition to college, while it can be a very positive experience, is often very stressful. School closures and quarantine precautions have required students to adapt quickly to distance learning techniques and environments. The resulting loneliness and isolation from social distancing are significant risk factors in the mental health of students.

Itawamba Community College has implemented an outreach initiative to assist members of its family, both students and faculty/staff, in coping with such issues by providing support in the areas covered by mental health. The Reach Out campaign is designed to reassure the ICC family that support is always available.
