Automotive Technology is an instructional program that prepares individuals to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles, including the diagnosis of malfunctions of all eight areas of ASE Education Foundation certification (Engine Repair, Electrical and Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems, Manual Drive Trains and Axles and Heating and Air Conditioning). Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, entry-level wage for automotive technicians is $25,730, and those with experience can earn an average of $52,110.

Online

Business and Marketing Management Technology is a two-year, fully-online program that is designed to help students develop competencies in marketing, management, entrepreneurship, advertising and other fundamental business subjects. Through a combination of online classes, projects and practical application, students receive the training they need to successfully enter the sales and marketing workforce. Upon completion of the two-year program, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business and Marketing Management Technology.

Construction Management Technology is an instructional program designed to prepare technicians for employment within the construction industries and firms in mid-level management operations as estimators, planners, project managers, layout specialists or other construction operations. Individuals currently employed as professionals will enhance their ability to perform their duties in the construction business. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Construction Management Technology. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. Students completing the program will be prepared for jobs in supervision, estimating, layout, cost control, materials procurement, safety, leadership and organization of construction projects. In the program, students learn workplace environmental and safety issues. They also learn how to identify safety hazards and notify the proper authorities. According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the average entry-level wage for construction managers is $46,020, and experienced managers earn an average of $98,870.

Criminal Justice Technology is a two-year, fully online program designed to provide training in traffic law, community policing, criminal investigation, corrections and criminal law. Many state and local agencies encourage applicants to take courses or training related to law enforcement subjects after high school. Students can earn a Career Certificate upon completion of the first 30 hours of the program curriculum. Upon completion of the two-year program, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice Technology.

Graduates of the program may expect to enter the job market at an entry-level position in law enforcement. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of police and sheriff’s patrol officers is expected to grow five percent from 2018-2028, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Students who complete the program are expected to earn an average salary ranging from $29,000 -$41,000, depending upon place of employment, experience and job responsibilities.

Diesel Equipment Technology is an instructional program that prepares students with competencies required to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment, including agricultural tractors, commercial trucks and construction equipment, including agricultural tractors, commercial trucks and construction equipment. The program incudes instruction in inspection, repair and maintenance of engines, power trains, hydraulic systems and other components. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel Technology. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the entry-level wage for diesel equipment technicians ranges from $28,040-$35,220, and those with experience can earn an average of from $45,280-$57,680.

Early Childhood Education Technology is a two-year, fully online program designed to help students develop competencies in child growth and development, behavioral guidance, health/nutrition and safety, program planning and management, child abuse and neglect, creative arts and literacy development, active learning in the classroom and developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom. Upon completion of the two-year program, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education Technology. Students must pass a criminal background check prior to participating in childcare center activities. Graduates of the two-year program may expect to enter the job market at an entry-level position in early education centers, daycares and as assistant teachers in the public school system or Head Start centers.

THE FUTURE

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of preschool teachers is projected to grow three percent from 2022-2032, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

THE PAY

The expected salary is $13.71 per hour, and the national median annual wage for preschool teachers working in child daycare services is $28,520.

The Electrical Technology program prepares students to install, operate, maintain and repair electrical systems such as residential, commercial and industrial wiring; D.C. and A.C. motors; electrical controls and electrical distribution panels. The program offers extensive hands-on training in electrical troubleshooting and the development of problem-solving skills in industrial electrical procedures, programmable logic controllers and process control. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the students will e awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Technology. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. This program prepares individuals in the management and production of forest resources. It includes instruction in woods and field skills, tree identification, timber measurement, logging and timber harvesting, forest preparation and regeneration, forest fire fighting, resource management, equipment operation and maintenance, record keeping, sales and purchasing operations and personnel supervision. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Forestry Technology. Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology is a postsecondary instructional program that prepares individuals to work in engineering departments or private firms installing, maintaining and operating small or medium air conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems. Instruction prepares individuals to work in a commercial setting performing special tasks relating to designing ductwork, assembly, installation, servicing, operation and maintenance of heating, cooling and refrigeration systems according to the standards of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.; Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), Air Conditioning Heating Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and others. Included are air conditioning, heating and refrigeration devices; equipment; techniques and systems and maintenance and operation of these systems. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Heating and Air Conditioning Technology. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Hospitality Management online program provides specialized occupational instruction in all phases of hotel and restaurant management to prepare students for careers as managers and supervisors in the hotel and restaurant industry. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management Technology. Industrial Maintenance Technology is a career education program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as multi-skilled maintenance technicians. Industrial maintenance trade technicians are responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing machinery used in the manufacturing or industrial environment. Students receive basic instruction in a wide variety of areas, including safety, machinery maintenance and troubleshooting/service, blueprint reading, basic welding and cutting operations, fundamentals of piping and hydro-testing and fundamentals of industrial electricity. Upon completion of this two-year curriculum, the student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology. The Information Systems Technology – Computer Networking Technology option offers training in telecommunications, network technologies, network security, administration, hardware maintenance, operating systems and network planning and implementation. Information Systems Technology – Computer Networking graduates will have opportunities for employment as computer support specialists, network technicians and network managers or administrators. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Systems Technology – Computer Networking. Information Systems Technology – Computer Programming is a two-year program designed to prepare students for employment in computer operations, computer programming, Web development and system analysis. Focus is placed on midrange and personal computer programming on the most up-to-date equipment. The curriculum includes concepts in application programming, business application software, Web development, scripting languages, basic computer hardware and security. Upon completion of the two-year curriculum, the student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Systems Technology – Computer Programming. Successful completion of 30 hours in the selected discipline entitles the individual to receive a Career Certificate. Paralegal Technology is a two-year, fully online associate’s degree program designed to prepare individuals to perform specifically-delegated substantive legal work that is supervised by an attorney. The program provides training in a number of areas, including civil litigation, legal research and writing, family law, wills and other legal areas. After completion of this online program, an individual will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. Successful completion of the first 30 hours of this program curriculum entitles the receipt of a Career Certificate. After graduation, students have the option to transfer their associate’s degree and continue working toward their bachelor’s degree online. The program provides an excellent background for entry-level positions in law firms, corporations and government agencies. Most paralegals in today’s marketplace have an associate’s degree from a two-year college or a certificate in paralegal studies. The Mississippi Department of Employment Security reports the state entry level annual wage as $30,150, and the experienced annual wage, $49,190. Robotics and Automation Technology is an instructional program that provides the student with technical knowledge and skills necessary for gaining employment as an automated technician in maintenance diagnostics, engineering or production in an automated manufacturing environment. The focus of this program is on electricity/electronics, fluid power, motors and controllers, programmable controls, interfacing techniques, instrumentation and automated processes. Successful completion of the 63-hour program entitles an individual to receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students can also earn a 30-hour career certificate and a 45-hour technical certificate. Known as the Advanced Manufacturing Technician program, it is designed as an innovative manufacturing degree that will span five semesters of classroom instruction and provide paid hands-on experience at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi in Blue Springs.

The Industrial Maintenance curriculum includes instruction in areas including electricity, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication and robotics, as well as advanced manufacturing, business principles and best practices. Upon completion of the program, candidates will receive an associate’s degree.

In addition to in-depth instruction in manufacturing, the program includes semester-long modules in safety culture, workplace organization, lean manufacturing, problem-solving and maintenance reliability. It emphasizes attendance, initiative, diligence, verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and professionalism.

Candidates who earn an AMT degree can compete for skilled positions across the country or may apply for any locally available positions at Toyota, its suppliers and any other locally-based companies. Additionally, they may continue their education in engineering, technology or business or pursue employment opportunities in the open job market. Graduates in the Toyota program receive a AAS degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology.  According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the entry-level wage for industrial maintenance technicians is $53,670 annually, and those with experience can earn an average of $62,380 annually.

The Welding and Cutting Technology curriculum is designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment in the field. The curriculum includes Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Carbon Arc Cutting, Oxyfuel Cutting and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTWA). Electives may be available in advanced levels of welding and cutting through the College’s noncredit division. The welding competencies required in this curriculum were developed to coincide with the Guide for the Training and Qualification of Welding Personnel: Entry Level Welders (AWS EG 2.0-95) and Specification for Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders (AWS QC 10-95), developed by the American Welding Society and funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Grant V.244 B 3006. The contributions of this resource are hereby acknowledged. Upon successful completion of the one-year curriculum, the student will be awarded a Career Certificate.
