PROGRAM OVERVIEW
THE PROGRAM
Radiologic Technology is a two-year (five-semester) program. Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist. The program accepts one class each year beginning in the fall. This program requires prerequisite courses and a minimum ACT score of 18. The prerequisites are located under the Program Admission Information and Procedures document below under the resources tab.
THE PROFESSION
Radiologic Technologists are the healthcare professionals who perform diagnostic imaging procedures, such as X-ray examinations, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and computed tomography (CT) scans. Some of them specialize in specific techniques such as cardiovascular-interventional radiography, mammography or sonography. Radiologic Technologists are responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality diagnostic image is produced. They work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret medical images to either diagnose or rule out disease or injury. For the images to be interpreted correctly by the radiologist, the imaging examination must be performed properly by a Radiologic Technologist. Radiologic Technologists work in hospitals, clinics and physician's offices.
THE PAY
The median annual wage for Radiologic Technologists is $53,660.
THE FUTURE
The U.S. Bureau of Labor projects 16,900 openings annually for 2024-2030 with employment projected to grow 6%.
