Implementation
The implementation of the QEP begins in FY 2017-2018 and concludes in FY 2021-2022. The Five-Year Implementation Plan was created by faculty and staff members of the Instructional Change Committee who will also provide oversight of the QEP during implementation. The intent of the QEP is to reach 2,300 students or 41 percent of the student population over the course of five years to make a significant impact on improving reading comprehension. The QEP implementation will include the teaching of research-based instructional strategies to improve reading comprehension that will be administered through four selected courses. The plan also includes resources that will be provided in support of the QEP which include professional development and training for faculty and learning resources for students. The High Impact Practice of Service Learning aligned with reading-based initiatives will be used to drive engagement with and enthusiasm for the QEP. Also, a structured assessment plan will be used to determine proficiency gains through pre- and post-assessments and to provide feedback to faculty and students. The QEP will be overseen by a QEP Director who will report on the QEP project annually via institutional IE processes and through meetings and reports provided to faculty, staff and administration. The QEP Director will work with the QEP Instructional Change Committee to review progress to date. Information on the QEP will also be shared through the QEP website. The Instructional Change Committee will provide guidance annually and suggest changes based on review of data, materials and best-practices observed.
