Career Pathways - Commercial Truck Driving

The Commercial Truck Driving program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough knowledge of log books, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.

Time Commitment: : Four weeks, 160 hours; Classes meet Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Curriculum:

Week One: Introduction to the motor carrier, safety regulations and state laws, hours of service and trip planning and inspection.

Week Two: Shifting/Clutching, backing, docking and parking.

Week Three: Over-the-road driving and city driving.

Week Four: City driving, testing and class completion.

Enrollment Requirements: U.S. citizen or Puerto Rico Valid driver’ s license; Copy of good driving record; Acceptable driving record with no more than two speeding tickets in the previous three years and no DUIs or DWUIs in the previous five years; Pass DOT physical and drug screening within 30 days of class; Pass class A CDL Learner's Permit exam

Fees: $3,200

Available Assistance: Tuition assistance and scholarships available for qualified applicants.

Credentials: Certificate of Completion, CDL License
