• ICC collaboration provides opportunity for financial assistance for five short-term training programs

  Students who enroll in five short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis.             The programs include Commercial Truck Driving, Electrician Assistant, Google IT, Residential Carpentry Assistant and Welding, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education.             “Upskill Mid-South has introduced the new initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. • ICC's Todd completes Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training

  Itawamba Community College Associate Degree Nursing instructor Dr. Cathy Todd of Fulton has earned more than 25 hours of continuing education to complete the Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training through the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training provides statewide simulation educator training, access to University of Mississippi Medical Centers through the office of Interprofessional Simulation, Training, Assessment, Research and Safety and communicates a statewide expectation for recognition of the value of pedagogically-advanced training curricula, contemporary educational/workplace communication techniques and the highest ethical standards in the use of simulation in healthcare education. “The MAST course provided me with teaching strategies that I will use to engage students in learning opportunities using simulation,” Todd said. “The knowledge and experience gained by students using simulation can contribute to increased patient safety and positive outcomes.” Todd’s educational background includes the associate’s degree from ICC; bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women; master’s degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the doctoral degree from Samford University, all in nursing. • ICC breaks ground on Commercial Truck Driving Training Center

  Itawamba Community College broke ground today (Oct. 21) for its Commercial Truck Driving Training Center which will be located at the new driving range across the street from the Tupelo Campus at 2176 So. Eason Blvd.             The 8,504-square-foot facility will include multiple truck bays, lab with a truck driving simulator, classroom, exterior wash bay, three offices and storage space.             “Today we break ground on a facility that will not only enhance our institution but will also help us to better meet a need in our region and beyond,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This new Commercial Truck Driving Training Center symbolizes more than the start of another construction project, but represents our continued commitment to education, workforce development and the future of our students. • ICC to conduct mock safety training exercises at Fulton, Tupelo

              Itawamba Community College will conduct mock safety training exercises in coordination with local law enforcement agencies at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, Feb. 18.             The Fulton Campus event will be from 8-11:30 a.m. at the Boggs Humanities Building, and the Tupelo Campus drill from 12:30-3 p.m. at the Student Support Center.             “This will be a test of our emergency preparedness procedures at these locations just as we did recently at the ICC Belden Center,” said Dr. Brad Boggs, dean of students. “The normal operation of the facilities will not be disrupted since classes won’t meet on Feb. 18 due to Presidents’ Day.”             The event is only a training exercise which will involve the majority of ICC’s faculty and staff at all locations. “This will provide local law enforcement, emergency responders and the College an opportunity to work together in the event of an incident.               Itawamba Community College will offer a new course, Enhanced Forklift Operator Training, Dec. 15 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Belden Center.             Topics include the requirements of the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178, safe powered industrial truck operation and how forklifts work, identification of operating hazards as well as the general principles of safe operation and how to properly inspect and maintain a forklift. No previous experience in forklift operation is required.             According to ICC Pathway Coordinator Josh Gammill, “This eight-hour class will provide students the opportunity to receive hands-on training on three different classifications of forklifts: Standup Rider (Class 1), Order Selector (Class 2) and LP Gas Powered Sit-Down Forklift (Class 4).”             Cost of the course is $85.             For more information or to preregister, call (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.
