• Early Childhood Academy April activities

               Itawamba Community College’s Early Childhood Academy has scheduled several events for April.             An Early Childhood Academy Vision Board Workshop will be Apr. 2 from 6-8 p.m. in room 608 of the Belden Center and Apr. 5 from 6-8 p.m. in room 126 of the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus. • ICC opens Early Childhood Academy

  Itawamba Community College is offering a new service to area parents and daycare providers through the Early Childhood Academy.             The service provides professional development training to daycare/preschool teachers as well as parenting classes and a large library of educational materials available for free use by those from Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties.             The Early Childhood Academy is a collaboration of ICC, the Mississippi Community College Board, the Mississippi Department of Human Services and child care providers to ensure that Mississippi’s family-based unified and integrated early childhood system connects and integrates resources and services for both parents/caregivers and their children.             ICC’s Resource and Referral Center is located in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus at 2176 South Eason Blvd. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Professional development is scheduled on selected Tuesdays and Thursdays (from 6-8 p.m.) and  Saturdays (9 a.m.-noon). • World Day of the Child should be celebrated EVERY day...because they are 'our future'

             The calendar pages are turning rapidly. Excitement and anticipation fill our days, hours and minutes…and most importantly, the sights and sounds of children, eagerly awaiting Christmas Eve, the most magical time of the year.             Children…we must celebrate them every day, because, you see, they are our future. They need love, nurturing and attention, all of which are free. • ICC, The W sign memorandum of understanding to provide opportunities for Early Childhood Education majors

  Itawamba Community College and Mississippi University for Women signed a memorandum of understanding today (July 14) to provide educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in early childhood education. The agreement establishes a pathway for ICC students who are earning an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Technology to have the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree at The W. According to the agreement, ICC  and The W will work together to enroll students  in the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Development program, including advising and encouraging students, alumni and constituents who qualify. • ICC's nursing students celebrate week, month and graduation

  When the pages of the calendar turned to May, a special celebration began for nurses across the nation.             Every year, from May 6-12, those in the profession are recognized for their service and dedication to caring for others and improving the health of patients through National Nurses Week.             But as special as nurses are and most deserving of a celebration, the week is just a small part of the larger National Nurses Month, which will be observed through May 31.             “Students who are enrolled in Itawamba Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing program prepare to take the NCLEX-RN and subsequently to become Registered Nurses, who work in collaboration with physicians and other members of a healthcare team,” said Tonya Vaughn, dean of Health Science Instruction. “They fill numerous roles, including but not limited to, disease prevention, coping with illness, patient assessments, health educators and advocacy. However, they don’t stop there. There is also possible case management, quality assurance procedures, directing complex nursing care systems and conducting clinical research. • ICC Adult Education to celebrate literacy week with orientation, outreach activities

  Itawamba Community College’s Adult Education program will celebrate Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Sept. 13-19, with orientation sessions and outreach activities promoting education and literacy across generations. Adult Education orientation sessions at the ICC Belden Center include: Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. - Registration for Belden daytime classes for individuals ages 18 and older Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. - Registration for Belden daytime classes for individuals ages 16-17 Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. - Registration for Belden evening classes for individuals ages 18 and older The program will also partner with the ICC Early Learning Centers in Fulton and Tupelo to encourage a love of reading among younger students. Adult Education Director Audra Perry will read “The Color Monster: A Story About Emotions” by Anna Llenas to approximately 70 preschool students.
