General 0 Three members of Itawamba Community College’s Natural Science Division faculty participated in the University of Alabama at Birmingham GATE program recently. They included Beth Campbell of Fulton, Michelle Milner of Saltillo and Lindsey Patterson of Amory. Campbell earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and has completed additional coursework. She has served as biology instructor at ICC since 1999, and her previous employment has included graduate assistant and research assistant staff at MSU, substitute teacher and private biology tutor. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and Faculty Teachers Association and holds certifications from the Globe Program and Project Learning Tree. She has an extensive list of awards including ICC’s Meritorious Achievement, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Lamplighter Award. She is a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she teaches the College and Career Sunday School class, Kid’s Time and Vacation Bible School and serves as a nursery volunteer. She and her husband, Jason, who is also on the ICC faculty and sponsor for the Bass Fishing team, have one son, Hayden, a sophomore at IAHS. Milner is a native of McCarley. She received her education at Marshall Elementary and J.Z. George Middle/High School in Carroll County. Her educational background also includes Mississippi Valley State University, the bachelor’s degree from Delta State University and the master’s degree at the University of Mississippi. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in Urban Higher Education and Policy Development at Jackson State University. Prior to joining the ICC faculty, Milner taught middle and high school in Carroll County, Shelby County, Tenn., Lee County and the Oxford City school district. Among the subjects were environmental science, biology, chemistry, principles of biology and human anatomy and physiology. She has two sons, Micah James and Micaiah Jabarie. Patterson is beginning her third year at ICC, where she teaches anatomy and physiology I and II. She earned the associate’s degree from ICC, bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from the University of West Alabama. She is a member of the children’s committee at the Amory First United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Linzy, who is an adult education instructor at Itawamba Community College, are the parents of Collins, 6, and Harper, 3. The Gross Anatomy of the Thorax and Abdomen course, which was designed for collegiate anatomy educators, included lectures and complete dissection of the thorax and abdomen as well as emphasis on educational strategies. Related Articles Application deadline approaches for ICC health science programs Itawamba Community College’s School of Health Science programs are designed to prepare individuals for employment in the healthcare field, and the application deadline for fall 2025 is rapidly approaching for 10 of the 11 programs. Students interested in ICC’s Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Information Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant Technology, Practical Nursing, Public Health Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care Technology and Surgical Technology must submit their online application and meet the requirements by May 1. According to Tonya Vaughn, Dean of Health Science Instruction, the only exception is Emergency Medical Sciences, which has an application deadline of Aug. 1 for the fall class. “Those who complete ICC’s health science programs earn either a certificate of completion or an Associate of Applied Science degree at the conclusion of their programs,” Vaughn said. “With our sophomores in all programs nearing the end of their study and preparation to enter the workforce, it is both a sad and happy time. ICC revamps Precision Machining Technology program, introduces one-year Associate of Applied Science dgreee Itawamba Community College has revamped its Precision Machining Technology program, transitioning it from two years to a streamlined one-year Associate of Applied Science degree opportunity, beginning this fall. The newly revised program will equip students with essential skills and knowledge through a carefully designed curriculum, ensuring that they are well-prepared for rewarding careers in the field of precision machining, according to Dylan Baldwin, director of Career Education. The three-semester program will enable students to graduate in July 2024. Upon completion of the program, they will receive a 45-hour certificate, demonstrating their mastery of precision machining techniques. The revised program incorporates several new classes to enhance students’ understanding and proficiency in precision machining. Courses such as Metallurgy, Die Repair and Jigs, Fixtures and Tools along with another Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Operations course have been added to the curriculum, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training in cutting-edge machining technologies and industry best practices. These courses will provide students with a well-rounded education and equip them with the skills demanded by the rapidly evolving manufacturing industry, Baldwin said. In addition to ... The program is designed to serve disadvantaged individuals between the ages of 16-24, not currently enrolled in school and/or unemployed or underemployed. Goals are to complete the essential job skills training, obtain a high school equivalency diploma if needed, participate in a paid work experience opportunity, enroll in college or in an occupational or advanced training program, join the military or become employed. All unemployed participants will be placed in a paid work experience internship once the student completes the Essential Job Skills training. According to WIOA Youth Coordinator Sanders Bell, students can start on Monday and possibly have a job by Friday.
