They include Kami Clark of Amory, assistant softball coach; Chris Moses of Plantersville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Linzy Patterson of Amory, adult basic education/high school equivalency instructor; Megan Ragsdale of Fulton, housekeeping; Angeelas Shannon of Tupelo, adult basic education administrative assistant and bookkeeper; Jimmy Whitehead of Booneville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Shundria Whitfield of Nettleton, adult basic education instructor; and Greg Yarbrough of Fulton, WIOA career coach. Clark earned the associate’s degree at ICC and is working toward the bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi. Moses previously served as HVAC instructor at Pinnacle Career Institute in Kansas City, Mo. His educational background includes the associate’s degree in robotics/automated systems from ICC. He has one child. Patterson earned the associate’s degree from ICC and the bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee-Martin. Previously he was special education teacher for the Amory School District. His honors include Teacher of the Year. He and his wife, Lindsey, are the parents of two children. Ragsdale is married to Johnnie Johnson. They have two children. Shannon previously served as administrative assistant II for the State of Alabama. Her educational background includes the bachelor’s degree in information technology from the University of Southern Mississippi and the master’s degree in business administration from Kaplan University. She has one child. Whitehead earned the associate’s degree in industrial electronics from Northeast Mississippi Community College. He and his wife, Rebecca, have one child. Whitfield earned the bachelor’s degree in English/psychology from the University of Mississippi. She also attended Rust College. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority. Whitfield’s previous employment includes employment interviewer with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security and English teacher at Okolona High School. She and her husband, James, have four children. Yarbrough previously served as career center specialist for the State of Alabama. He earned the bachelor’s degree in English and history from California Baptist University and the master’s degree in public administration from Jacksonville State University. He and his wife, Kelly, have two children. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the Fulton Campus. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for students to walk the red carpet and have their pictures made (optional). Dress can be formal or casual. The screening of the two films will begin at 7 p.m. “Ruby,” which was written by Jade Keaton of Tupelo and directed by Charlie Wright of Pontotoc, stars Annaka Langley of Houston and Ashlyn Holcomb of Fulton. “Mississippi Minute” stars Ryan Perich of Saltillo and Patrick Gallagher (Los Angeles, Calif.) from “Night at the Museum.” The event is free to the public, and concessions will be available for purchase. ICC releases latest reopening plan for Aug. 17 As Aug. 17 approaches, Itawamba Community College has released information that will provide a glimpse of what to expect for the fall semester at all three of its locations, Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. The plan was developed based on guidance from healthcare professionals, feedback from employees and students as well as ICC leadership and recommendations from the College’s reopening task force, according to President Dr. Jay Allen. “The information provides an overview as we plan to welcome students back to our locations when classes begin on Aug. 17. Every decision that continues to be made prioritizes the safety of our students, employees and communities we serve.” The plan covers such areas as academics, residence halls, campus dining and student experience. In addition, a self-reporting app will be implemented for all students and employees to allow for symptom checking and contact tracing. All students will complete an ICC-specific Canvas module, Safely Together, on ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and how members of the college community can continue to stay safely together, Allen said. ... Support Staff of the Year Three Itawamba Community College employees have been selected as recipients of the 2016-17 Recognition of Excellence, Support Staff Employee Award. They include Colby Hannon of Pontotoc, PC/telecommunications and network technician; Jennifer McFerrin of Mantachie, library technical specialist; and Candice Pitts of Mantachie, Advising Center office specialist. Hannon graduated from ICC in 1998, which is the same year he began his employment in the Learning Resource Center. After two years, he transferred to Telecommunications and Information Service. He is married to Debbie Hannon, and he attends The Orchard Methodist Church in Tupelo. McFerrin earned the associate’s degree from ICC, the bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women and in 2014, Library Support Staff Certification. Her work experience includes the North Mississippi Medical Center, Community Development Foundation, Mantachie First Baptist Church and Mantachie Printing. McFerrin joined the ICC staff in 1991, serving as library technical specialist at the Tupelo Campus. Since January 1997, she has been at the Fulton Campus, where she has also proctored online testing prior to her current duties. ICC releases reopening plan for fall; classes to begin as originally scheduled Itawamba Community College announced plans today to open its doors for classes for the fall semester on Aug. 17 as originally scheduled as well as provided more details regarding educational delivery methods, student activities and athletics. The scheduled opening is part of the recommendations from the college’s 21-member Reopening Task Force, which was appointed to examine campus operations, sanitation, student activities, facilities, residence halls, academics and athletics. “At the onset of COVID-19 in Mississippi, we suspended nearly all in-person operations at ICC, including face-to-face instruction,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This was a challenging decision; however, we were prepared for the transition to online instruction due to our nationally-recognized eLearning Department and our dedicated faculty. We have since shifted to returning our employees to our facilities, while never ceasing to impede the successes of our past, current and potential students. Spotlight: Lab Tech Margie Thomas assists with ICC COVID precautions Margie Thomas now spends her days testing for COVID-19 at the Fulton Campus, a key component of the effort ICC continues to make to keep its community safe. But her career as a medical professional started 10 years ago when she completed a phlebotomy course at ICC. Along the way, she’s also earned PBT American Society for Clinical Pathology certification and a medical transcriptionist certificate. Her career has taken her to the North Mississippi Medical Center where she worked as a phlebotomist technician for six years and to the Magnolia Regional Health Center where she was a PT in the emergency room for two years. In today’s pandemic world, Thomas is now filling a significant need at ICC, where she was employed as the COVID lab technician last October. She clocks in at 8 a.m., Monday through Friday, and then she checks her schedule to see how many appointments she has for the day because “someone could have gotten sick and needs to be tested quickly.” Then she checks to make sure she ...
