General 0 Registration is continuing for a night class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program, which will begin Apr. 29 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet Mondays through Thursdays through June 19 from 6-9 p.m. The program is designed to prepare students desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and will earn nationally-recognized credentials. Developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the north Mississippi region, the 94-hour MSBC program includes three national credentials – 10-hour OSHA, the American Heart Association’s CPR and the Career Readiness Certificate. Comprehensive interactive classes, computer-based tools, experienced instructors and excellent reference materials create a valuable training experience. Participants will learn how to operate a forklift; how to read a caliper, micrometer and blueprint drawing; how to perform CPR; what companies do to improve and ensure safety, productivity and quality of their processes and products and improve their computer skills. Related Articles Food Management Certification class to begin Apr. 28 at ICC-Belden Registration is underway for a Food Management Certification class that will begin Apr. 28 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. through May 22. Highlights of the hands-on course include both ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning/preparation, assistance/participation in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and both front- and back-of-the-house operations. They include Residential Wiring, Small Engine Repair Technician and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Residential Wiring meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Mar. 9. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use. Small Engine Repair Technician meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Apr. 6. Upon successful completion of the 16-session program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair shop or to open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination.
