ICC joins in National Truck Driver Appreciation Week; now recruiting students for upcoming classes Itawamba Community College is joining with the American Trucking Association in celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 15-21. The weeklong celebration honors the millions of professional truck drivers who deliver America’s freight safely and securely every day. It is especially meaningful to Itawamba Community College, which is also celebrating its Commercial Truck Driving program that is now recruiting students for classes that will begin soon at its Tupelo Campus. ICC’s CTD program prepares individuals to drive Class A semitrucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. It is designed to give the future driver a complete and thorough understanding of logbooks, trip records and the motor carrier safety regulations of the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. Options include four weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., or 16-weeks. Enrollment requirements include U.S. citizen or Puerto Rico valid driver’s license; copy of good ... ICC, Get2College to offer FAFSA assistance at Apr. 26 drive-thru event Students and parents who need assistance with completion of the FAFSA form have an opportunity during a drive-thru event at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus, Apr. 26, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the parking lot beside the Academic and Student Center. Representatives from Get2College and ICC’s Financial Aid office will be available to assist with filing the FAFSA, State Aid application, ICC scholarships and county aid for 2021-22, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. “The event will be primarily to assist students and parents who, due to COVID-19, may not yet be comfortable with coming into the office,” Bland said. Tents will be set up to provide a safe, socially distanced environment. “Even if you do not think you are eligible for a Pell grant, you should still file your FAFSA in order to be considered for emergency funding, which is available from the U.S. Department of Education,” he noted. Drive-thru diploma pick up cancelled June 9 due to inclement weather; June 10 and 11 pickup times available Although the traditional ceremony has been postponed, members of Itawamba Community College’s Class of 2020 will have an opportunity to pick up their diplomas June 10 in Tupelo and June 11 in Fulton. The pickup date originally scheduled for the Tupelo Campus on June 9 has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Drive-thru pickup locations and times are June 10, Health Science Education Center, Tupelo Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. and June 11, Cypress Pavilion, Fulton Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Students must present their student ID or driver’s license, and no third-party pick up will be allowed. Members of Phi Theta Kappa can pick up stoles and tassels at either location. The $35 is payable in cash with the correct change or completed check. All Honors College students must pick up their medallions at the Tupelo Campus on June 10 or the Fulton Campus, June 11. All passengers in vehicles are encouraged to wear masks. Diplomas will be mailed to graduates who cannot pick them up on the available dates. ...
