Coach Mark Potter to focus on severe depression battle in The Silent Epidemic presentation at ICC, Sept. 20

Coach Mark Potter, powerful inspirational speaker, will present “The Silent Epidemic” at 7 p.m., Sept. 20, at the Davis Event Center at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.

This keynote provides a real, relevant and new story of Potter’s personal experience with severe depression. He says that individuals can have “victory over mental illness, and he wants to share his experiences with others.”

The public is invited, and admission is free.

In December 2016, Potter, Newman University men’s basketball coach of 19 years, announced that the season would be his last and he was following his new passion of speaking on mental health.

Potter inspires and challenges audiences with his real story over severe depression, said Dr. Chad Case, ICC Athletic Director and Dean of Students. “His practical ideas are designed to help everyone train their brain and be able to practice mental health and wellness strategies.”

“This epidemic is creating havoc all across the U.S.,” Potter emphasizes. “It’s time to shatter the stigma and truly stop ‘The Silent Epidemic.’”

Potter was a head basketball coach for 30 years with 19 at the college level. He has been coach of the year five times and named top 15 most influential people in the Wichita sports world. He was inducted into the Cowley College Hall of Fame, the Newman University Hall of Fame, the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame and most recently, the National Baseball Congress Hall of Fame.

He and his wife, Nanette, who often joins him in presentations, were high school sweethearts. Now married for more than 30 years, they have two children and four grandchildren.
