3 February ICC CDL Program offers fast track to trucking careers February 3, 2026 By Camp, Tyler W Career Center, General 0 A career on the open road can begin in just four weeks through Itawamba Community College’s Commercial Truck Driving Program, which continues to train Class A commercial drivers and will soon expand to include public Class B and Hazmat Endorsement courses. The Commercial Truck Driving Program prepares individuals to operate Class A trucks and other commercial vehicles through hands-on, industry-focused instruction. Training covers operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents, verifying loads against shipping records and maintaining required documentation. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of log books, trip records and motor carrier safety regulations set by the United States Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The Class A Commercial Driver’s License course is a four-week program totaling 160 hours. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $3,200, and financial assistance is available for qualified applicants. Upcoming Class A training dates include Feb. 9–March 6, March 16–April 10, April 20–May 15 and May 26–June 19. To further support workforce needs across the region, ICC will soon offer a public Class B CDL course for $1,000, along with a Hazmat Endorsement course for $300. Related Articles Upskill Mid-South offers possible financial assistance for four ICC short-term traning programs Students who enroll in four short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis. The programs include Electrician Assistant, Welding and Cutting, Commercial Truck Driving and Google IT Support, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education and Career Services. “Upskill Mid-South introduced the initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. The program is designed to address critical workforce needs. Among the Mississippi counties include Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union. “The Itawamba Community College, the University of Memphis and UpSkill Mid-South Partnership offers accelerated job training and education programs to people in the community as well as help finding a job,” said Diane Pabich, director, University of Memphis, Upskill Mid-South program. “Our programs help individuals develop and refine skills that are highly valued in today’s workplace. Itawamba Community College is offering several free short-term career pathways to those who qualify from now until the end of December as part of the ReSkill Mississippi Initiative. The program is designed to help ease the economic burden and uncertainty the pandemic has created for the state’s workforce. ICC is utilizing the resources to enhance or start new workforce development training and/or career education programs that would positively impact underemployed, unemployed, furloughed and/or otherwise displaced individuals who are experiencing economic hardships as a result of COVID-19, said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. ICC has utilized the ReSkill Mississippi funds to create short-term pathway programs in medical administrative assistant, quality improvement associate, introduction to industrial maintenance and electrician assistant. ICC Pathways Programs Open Doors to High-Demand Careers For individuals ready to move quickly from the classroom to a career, Itawamba Community College is offering a slate of Pathways workforce training programs beginning in January 2026 at the ICC Belden Center, located at 3200 Adams Farm Road. Programs and schedules include: Food Management Certification will be held Jan. 12–Feb. 6, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program provides essential skills for the restaurant and hospitality industry, including ServSafe® Food Manager and Alcohol Certification, menu planning and preparation, participation in catered events, résumé and interview preparation, and front- and back-of-the-house operations. Certified Nursing Assistant runs Jan. 12–April 1 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5–9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam. Graduates may find employment in nursing homes, medical centers, home health agencies and clinics. Medical Administrative Assistant will be offered Jan. 12–April 8 on Mondays from 5–9 p.m., with additional online assignments. The program focuses on administrative and clerical skills needed in medical offices and prepares students to pursue Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification through the National Healthcareer Association. ICC's enhanced Summer Edge program offers tuition free up to six hours and waived fees Itawamba Community College is continuing its Summer Edge program, and the enhanced version will offer all students an opportunity to take up to six credit hours (two three-credit hour classes) with tuition and all fees waived. The course includes the body of knowledge required by the American Society for Quality for Quality Improvement Associate. Topics are quality concepts, benefits and philosophies; team roles, responsibilities and team dynamics; continuous improvement and process improvement and customer-supplier relations. Application deadline approaches for ICC health science programs Itawamba Community College’s School of Health Science programs are designed to prepare individuals for employment in the healthcare field, and the application deadline for fall 2025 is rapidly approaching for 10 of the 11 programs. Students interested in ICC’s Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Information Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant Technology, Practical Nursing, Public Health Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care Technology and Surgical Technology must submit their online application and meet the requirements by May 1. According to Tonya Vaughn, Dean of Health Science Instruction, the only exception is Emergency Medical Sciences, which has an application deadline of Aug. 1 for the fall class. “Those who complete ICC’s health science programs earn either a certificate of completion or an Associate of Applied Science degree at the conclusion of their programs,” Vaughn said. “With our sophomores in all programs nearing the end of their study and preparation to enter the workforce, it is both a sad and happy time.
