General 0 Itawamba Community College has scheduled the 2023 English Roundtable Conference, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). Sponsored by the ICC English department, the conference will provide an opportunity to share best practices and learn from other teachers in the discipline. CEU credits will be provided. Featured educators include Emily Comer, Mooreville High School; Joseph Jones, Itawamba Agricultural High School; JuiLondia Mosley, Houston High School and Kaylor Tutor, Pontotoc Junior High School. Conference on Aging set for Apr. 27 Registration is underway for the eighth annual Northeast Mississippi Conference on Aging scheduled for Apr. 27 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The conference, which is for both caregivers and professionals, is designed to foster interdisciplinary interactions among clinical and administrative healthcare professionals concerned with aging. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and sessions are scheduled from 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Highlights of the program include “Putting the Person Back in Person-Centered Care,” Steve McAlilly and Michelle Daniel; “Partners in Care,” Marylin Winborne and Lynn Cox; “Aging, Ethics and Elder Abuse: What’s Happening in Mississippi,” Sandra McClendon; “Pass the Cornbread: Southern Culture and its Effect on Our Health,” Cassie Alexander and Dr. Carla Stanford; and “Walk a Mile in an Elder’s Shoes: Experience Age-Related Changes That Happen to Everyone,” Dr. Laura Pannell. Fees include $25, non-Mississippi Gerontological Society members; $15, Mississippi Gerontological Society members; and free for caregivers and ICC students. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Math and science sessions include Jan. 30, Apr. 10 and May 29. English and reading are offered Jan. 23, Apr. 3 and June 5. ICC’s ACT prep instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods: review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “’studying smart” that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests are administered to measure performance.
