General 0 Itawamba Community College’s Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology program will host the second annual Mississippi HAAS HTEC Educators Conference, from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Feb. 9, in the new state-of-the-art Precision Machining lab at the Belden Center. The mission of the Haas Technical Education Center network is to promote and advance manufacturing and productivity through excellence in manufacturing education. Its vision is to collectively develop and disseminate the best educational materials and techniques in the world for advanced manufacturing education. Those who attend will have an opportunity to network with regional educators; meet with leading experts in tooling, software and metrology; learn about support available from Haas and the local HFO as well as how to tap into grants from the Gene Haas Foundation. Related Articles ICC's Patterson selected state MAACE Administrator of Year Linzy Patterson of Amory, director of adult education at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as the recipient of the 2021-22 Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education Administrator of the Year award. In January 2018, Patterson joined ICC’s Adult Education department as an instructor at the Amory WIN Center, and in 2019-20, he was transferred to the Belden Center to serve as lead instructor. During this time, he was a member of the state SmartStart professional development committee as well as the TABE Frequently Asked Questions Manual committee. In August 2021, he was promoted to ICC’s director of adult education. Patterson began his professional career with the Amory School District in 2010, serving as a special education instructor along with assistant football, soccer and tennis coach. He was selected as Teacher of the Year for the 2014-15 school year. Patterson’s nominator for the award said, “Having come from a special education background, he is especially sensitive to the needs of those students. ICC formally opens state-of-the-art Robotics Lab at Belden Center Itawamba Community College formally opened its state-of-the-art robotics lab at the Belden Center during a ribbon cutting ceremony today (May 8). “It is an exciting day for our college, our students, our faculty and our region as we officially unveil our new state-of-the-art Robotics Lab, a facility that not only represents the future of workforce training, but also our steadfast commitment to innovation, opportunity and excellence,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “The $1.2 million renovation made possible through the support of our friends in the Mississippi Legislature reflects a true investment in the lives and futures of our students and the communities we serve. ICC, partners to host caregivers conference Itawamba Community College, along with several community partners, is hosting “The Fearless Caregiver Senior Adult Conference,” from 4-7:30 p.m., Apr. 19, which includes a resource fair and refreshments, at the Belden Center. The come-and-go conference is designed to equip caregivers with the knowledge, skills and elder resources available in the region. Attendees will receive a booklet containing important information for caregivers. Perry of Pontotoc, director of Adult Education at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education Eloise Richardson Administrator of the Year award. Perry joined ICC’s Adult Education department as director in August 2022. She began her professional career in 2011 at Mississippi Delta Community College, serving as lead counselor, interim Dean of Career-Technical and Adult Education and director of Advising. She was selected to participate in the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy and Mississippi Community College Policy Fellows Program. One of Perry’s nominators for the award said, “In a brief time, Mrs. Perry has found a way to bring change. She stepped into a role, and I know it has not always been easy for her, especially at a time when multiple positions had to be filled. She had the task of hiring new employees and bringing the team together as well as learning new responsibilities. She has successfully accomplished all those things. ICC to host free MiBEST information session, Oct. 19, at Belden Center Itawamba Community College will host an information session on how individuals can earn college credits and certification in HVAC, welding/cutting or Certified Nursing Assistant while working on their high school equivalency credentials at 2 p.m., Oct. 19, at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). The free event is part of a commemoration of MiBEST Week, which is Oct. 18-23. The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program is a workforce and economic development initiative that moves low-skilled, noncredentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages, according to Linzy Patterson, ICC director of adult education. The session will also cover information on academic success and financial aid. Patterson said that pathways in addition to HVAC, welding/cutting and CNA will be available soon.
