General 0 Itawamba Community College will formally open its Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus with a dedication program and ribbon cutting at 2 p.m., Mar. 2. The 50,944-square-foot two-story building includes the bookstore (Grounds Coffee Shop), cafeteria, business office, admissions, financial aid, advising center, computer lab, conference room, faculty offices and classrooms for social sciences, fine arts and business courses. Tours will follow the ceremony. The public is invited to attend. The limited-seat culinary experience invites guests to enjoy an intimate evening of cooking demonstrations by the residence chef while also dining on a specially curated menu from the featured restaurant. Designed as a monthly food experience, Dinner & Demo offers a unique opportunity to see preparation techniques up close while savoring a full meal in a relaxed, engaging atmosphere. The March 26 menu will showcase wild game selections, including duck and bison, offering guests a bold and distinctive dining experience. TAG Truck Center Tupelo facilitates rolling chassis donation to ICC's Diesel Equipment Technology program TAG Truck Center Tupelo (TAG Tupelo) recently facilitated the donation of a rolling chassis training aid to the Itawamba Community College Diesel Equipment Technology program for hands-on training while studying chassis repair during its core diesel curriculum. The chassis, originally used in Daimler Truck North America’s Service Training Academy, was in Tooele, Utah and was due for placement at a college or school which applied for it and would use it for training purposes. TAG Tupelo provided the logistics and transportation costs to have it delivered to ICC’s diesel shop. “Our program’s partnership with TAG Tupelo is strong, and we thank them and Higgins Logistics for facilitating this donation. It will allow for practical hands-on experience for our Diesel Equipment students, which is vitally important for their knowledge growth,” said Jason Gholston, director of ICC’s Diesel Equipment Technology program. ICC’s Diesel Equipment Technology program, which was created in 1985, is an instructional program that prepares students with competencies required to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment. ICC's Celebration of Unity programs set for Feb. 4 at both Fulton and Tupelo Itawamba Community College’s Student Government Associations and Student Activities have scheduled Celebration of Unity programs at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, Feb. 4. The Tupelo Campus program will be at 12:05 p.m. in the student presentation room of the Student Support Center, and the Fulton Campus event will be at 7 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. Juanita Floyd, vice president of finance and administration for the CREATE Foundation and co-author of “Summer of 1969,” will be the speaker for both programs. She has been employed with the Foundation for almost 35 years. The Foundation established the Bernice Gambrell Endowment Fund in the amount of $10,000 to honor both Floyd on her 20th anniversary as well as her mother. She is active in community affairs, serving on several boards. Floyd was the Tupelo PTO President and was selected “Parent of the Year” in 2008. In August 2019, she was selected as one of Mississippi’s Most Influential African Americans. Her additional honors include Tupelo Trailblazer of the Year, and in 2016, she was the focus of a WTVA ... ICC appoints reopening plan task force Itawamba Community College is actively making plans to safely open its doors for the 2020 fall semester with the appointment of a task force that will examine all options. The 21 members, which touch all areas of the college, had a virtual organizational meeting on May 18, and its goal is the announcement of a plan on June 15. “Our goal is to develop guidelines and protocols for the 2020 fall semester while following the guidance of public health officials and take a measured approach in determining how and when to welcome students back to campus and fully resume face-to-face instruction and services,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. Approximately 100 administrators, faculty, staff and students will be involved in the process through the task force and additional participation in three breakout committees – Health Standards for Employees, Students and Visitors Proposal (Rilla Jones, Dean of Health Science Instruction); Residence Halls. ICC releases reopening plan for fall; classes to begin as originally scheduled Itawamba Community College announced plans today to open its doors for classes for the fall semester on Aug. 17 as originally scheduled as well as provided more details regarding educational delivery methods, student activities and athletics. The scheduled opening is part of the recommendations from the college’s 21-member Reopening Task Force, which was appointed to examine campus operations, sanitation, student activities, facilities, residence halls, academics and athletics. “At the onset of COVID-19 in Mississippi, we suspended nearly all in-person operations at ICC, including face-to-face instruction,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This was a challenging decision; however, we were prepared for the transition to online instruction due to our nationally-recognized eLearning Department and our dedicated faculty. We have since shifted to returning our employees to our facilities, while never ceasing to impede the successes of our past, current and potential students. Alum Bishop Alexander to speak at ICC's Unity programs at Fulton, Tupelo Itawamba Community College alumnus Bishop Alexander, who is the director of Alumni Relations at the University of North Alabama, will be the featured speaker for Unity programs in Celebration of Black History Month, Feb. 24, at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. The Tupelo Campus program is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Dining Hall of the Academic and Student Center, and the Fulton Campus program, 6 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on seating, the general public is invited to participate via ZOOM.
