13 August 'Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World' August 13, 2018 By Thomas, Donna S. General 0 The works of Linda Lindale of Amory, aka “The Funky Lady,” will be on display through Sept. 21 at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The show is titled “Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World.” Lindale is a self-taught textile and fabric artist who puts her talents and vision to use creating unique clothing designs and costumes. “As a fabric artist, the ladies are my canvas, and the yarn is my paint,” Lindale said. “My ‘paints are homespun yarn, specialty yarns, ribbon yarns, fun yarns and eyelash yarns. My ‘paintbrushes’ are my crochet hooks. “My work is very unique,” Lindale continued. “In fact, it has been described as ‘offbeat, unusual and trendsetting.’ It’s not exactly Grandma’s knitted scarf; hence the nickname, ‘The Funky Lady.’ My free-form creations include scarves, collars, hats, shawls, vests, kimonos and shrugs. I look for odd and unusual things, using different yarns, colors and textures. I also incorporate metals into my textiles.” Lindale said that she has been drawn into the work of fabric art on a full-time basis to share her faith and talents, especially with young women. She volunteers with church youth groups, Girl Scouts and school-aged students. Many of her pieces have been purchased by strong, confident women, she said. “That is the type of confidence that I want to instill in the young women of today with which I share this special form of art.” A reception and gallery talk will be from 2-3 p.m., Sept. 21 in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, except when the College is closed for holidays.
