10 June Gore named MACCC Sports Information Director of the Year June 10, 2026 By Camp, Tyler W General 0 Itawamba Community College Sports Information Director and Director of Media Relations Adam Gore has been named the 2026 Sports Information Director of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC). The award recognizes outstanding leadership and service in athletic communications among Mississippi’s community colleges. Gore joined ICC in 2010 as the college’s first Assistant Sports Information Director and was promoted to Sports Information Director and Director of Media Relations in 2014. Since then, he has helped increase the visibility of ICC Athletics through innovative storytelling, digital media and strategic communications. “Adam has dedicated his career to telling the stories of our student-athletes, coaches and programs,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “His passion for ICC, commitment to excellence and innovative approach to athletic communications have elevated the visibility of our college across the state and nation. This recognition is well deserved.” Prior to joining ICC, Gore worked in sports broadcasting and journalism and founded GoreSports.net, a regional sports coverage website. His professional accomplishments include more than 100 Mississippi Press Association awards and 70 College Public Relations Association of Mississippi awards. He was most recently recognized in March 2026 by the Two-Year Sports Information Directors of America (2ySIDA) as sports information director of the month. “Adam’s impact extends far beyond game coverage,” said ICC Chief of Staff Tyler Camp. “He has built meaningful relationships with student-athletes and coaches while creating opportunities for their accomplishments to be seen by audiences across Mississippi and beyond. His team continues to strengthen the ICC brand and enhance the student-athlete experience.” Gore is a graduate of Itawamba Community College and the University of West Alabama and resides in Fulton. The AACC CEO of the Year Award honors leaders whose work has made a significant and lasting impact on their institutions, students and the communities they serve. Dr. Allen will be formally recognized as a finalist during the AACC annual convention, the nation’s premier convening of community college leaders, to be held in April in Seattle, Washington. Since assuming the presidency at ICC, Dr. Allen has emphasized student success, workforce alignment and community engagement while maintaining a strong focus on institutional culture and excellence. ICC to honor Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame Sept. 23 Itawamba Community College will honor its 2021 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during Homecoming activities, Sept. 23, at the Fulton Campus. They include Karen Camp McFerrin of Mantachie, Alumnus of the Year; and Cameron “CeCee” Austin Cavanaugh of Pontotoc and Jeff Tally of Saltillo, Athletic Hall of Fame. From 1968-70, McFerrin attended ICC, where she earned the associate’s degree. She was a Wesley Foundation officer, Drum Major, vice president of the Home Economics Club and charter member of Phi Theta Kappa, Hall of Fame, IJC Beauty and Dean’s List Scholar. She continued her education at the University of Mississippi, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in home economics. She began her career working for the Mississippi Extension Service in Tylertown before returning home to accept a position at ICC, where she served as a recruiter, teacher and adviser. Metallica Scholars Initiative workforce education program expands in year 7; ICC one of two in Mississippi to receive grant Metallica Scholars Initiative workforce education program expands; Itawamba Community College one of two in Mississippi Year 7 is largest grant to date with approximately $3 million committed, Expected to reach approximately 10,000 students Fulton, Miss. – All Within My Hands, the nonprofit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, recently announced its Year 7 of its Metallica Scholars Initiative with its largest grant to date, totaling approximately $3 million. Itawamba Community College was among those whose grants were renewed for the third time. MSI now has a presence in 75 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam and is expected to reach approximately 10,000 students. Jones named Health Science dean Rilla Jones of Corinth has been named dean of Health Science Instruction at Itawamba Community College. Jones earned the bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree in education from Mississippi State University. She has completed coursework in community college leadership from both the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University. In addition, she has received technical training from the School of Medical Technology at the North Mississippi Medical Center. Her certifications include American Society of Clinical Pathologists and Licensure Tennessee Laboratory License. Jones is a member of the Academic Officers Association, Southern Association for Institutional Research, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the Tennessee State Society for Clinical Microbiology. She previously served as the vice president of Instruction for Northeast Mississippi Community College. ICC Mourns the Passing of Longtime Communications Director Donna Thomas Itawamba Community College is mourning the loss of one of its most devoted and influential team members, Donna Thomas of New Albany, who dedicated more than 55 years of service to the college and touched countless lives through her professional excellence, mentorship and quiet acts of kindness. Thomas, who began her ICC career on January 15, 1970, faithfully served six of the college’s seven presidents, building a legacy that spanned generations. Over her distinguished tenure she held numerous leadership positions including adult basic education newspaper editor, continuing education director, director of publications, director of media relations and most recently director of communications. She also served as a journalism instructor, mentoring students through her advisement of The Chieftain, ICC’s student newspaper, and The Mirror, the college yearbook, both of which earned multiple top awards from the Mississippi Press Association and the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM).
