General 0 Itawamba Community College’s “best of the best” were honored for their selection as recipients of the Faculty and Staff Awards of Distinction for 2024-25 during a recent special ceremony. They include Olga Weatherford (administrative assistant to the Dean of Academic Instruction) and Mike West (Transportation Services), both of Fulton, Support Staff of the Year; Dylan Baldwin (dean of Career Education) of Pontotoc and Raphael Henry (Video Operations coordinator) of Tupelo, Professional/Administrative Staff of the Year; Beth Bowers (clinical director for Respiratory Care Technology) of Oxford, Debbie Roebuck (director of EMT/Paramedic program) of Nettleton, Faculty Member of the Year; and Heather McCormick (Mathematics division chair) of Fulton, John and Beth Cleveland Endowed Excellence in Education Outstanding Faculty Member award. Others honored were Jessi Stevenson of Fulton, fine arts instructor, William Winter Scholar, and Megan Lewis Eidt of Tupelo, Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award winner. The annual event also included those who are retiring at the end of the 2024-25 academic year. Related Articles ICC's Forestry program, Student Activities to celebrate Arbor Day with special Feb. 13 ceremony Itawamba Community College’s Forestry Technology program and Student Activities will celebrate Arbor Day at 9 a.m., February 13, with a special ceremony on the Fulton Campus. The public is invited. “Thanks to the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Walton’s Greenhouse, three 15-gallon trees, including an Eastern Redbud, Chinese Fringetree and Sweet Bay Magnolia will be planted to replace those that have been removed because of weather damage or age,” said Emily Loden-Jones, Forestry Technology instructor. The event will be in front of a ceremonial tree of love, a large water oak in the courtyard area between the eLearning Building and Community Relations. Loden-Jones said that students, faculty, staff, alumni and Early Learning participants are invited to complete Valentine Day hearts including why they love ICC or if they met their sweethearts at the college, and they will be collected and hung on the tree. Six receive ICC Diagnostic Medical Sonography degrees in special ceremony Several area residents from Itawamba Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program received their degrees at a special event, July 23, at the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. They include Holly Tillman of Ackerman; Madison Huppert of Amory; Madisson Dill of Corinth; Mamie Hollenhead of Louisville; Lenzi Lewis of Okolona; and Misty Taylor of Pontotoc. Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a one-year (three-semester) program. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography examinations. Amanda Stone of Saltillo is the program director, and Daphne Jackson of Shannon, clinical coordinator. ICC, MSU sign memorandum of understanding for successful transfer of honors credits Itawamba Community College and Mississippi State University have signed a memorandum of understanding to successfully transfer honors credits. The agreement, which was signed by ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and MSU Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. David Shaw late yesterday afternoon, will enable seamless transfer of the credits from ICC to the Shackouls Honors College at MSU. Students from ICC seeking admission to the Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State must follow the standard admissions procedures for transfer students, according to the agreement, and honors credits transferred from ICC will count at MSU. There are two pathways for an ICC student to graduate in good standing from the Shackouls Honors College, including The Cursus Pathway (two specified honors courses, at least one three credit 3000-level Honors Interdisciplinary course with a grade of ‘C’ or higher and a for-credit Study Abroad, additional foreign language course or a faculty-led research project and successfully writing and defending an Honors thesis (0-6 credits). ICC to broadcast online commencement ceremony May 14 Itawamba Community College will broadcast an online commencement ceremony to honor the Class of 2020, at 7 p.m., May 14. The ceremony will be broadcast via ICC’s Facebook Live and on www.LetsGoICCTV.com/red. “The historical format of the ceremony will continue, including the listing of names of all of the graduates, the announcement of honors and conferral of degrees,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “Special music will be provided by students enrolled in ICC’s music department.” ICC announced earlier the postponement of the ceremony from May 8 due to MSDH and CDC guidelines as a result of the impact of COVID-19. “It is our goal to provide the class of 2020 an opportunity to march in a traditional ceremony, pending the status of the public health emergency,” Allen said. “Once a date has been determined, graduates will have the opportunity to register to participate. Little, Hoing, Sheffield earn MHIMA awards, honors Itawamba Community College’s Health Information Technology instructor Lori Little of Fulton and students Misty Sheffield of Fulton and Claudia Michaela Hoing of Thaxton have received awards and honors from the Mississippi Health Information Management Association. Little was the recipient of both the 2018 Educator and Mentor awards, and Sheffield and Hoing were presented MSHIMA scholarships for outstanding academic performance. Little earned the associate’s degree from ICC, bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and master’s degree from Union University. Her professional honors and activities include HOSA Adviser of the Year, Leadership Itawamba, AHIMA first year delegate, MSHIMA member liaison, Northeast Council president and a member of numerous college committees. Little is a member of Bethel Baptist Church and also an instructor for adult basic education. She and her husband, David, have two children, Cassidy and Cooper.
