ICC is the only Mississippi community college among the 2027 finalists. ICC is one of 10 finalists in the Workforce Development category, which recognizes strategic partnerships between community colleges and workforce partners that address regional labor market needs. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff and the strong partnerships that connect our students with meaningful career opportunities,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “Being selected for only the second time in our college’s history is a significant honor. We are proud to represent Mississippi and share how ICC is helping prepare a skilled workforce that strengthens our communities.” The Bellwether College Consortium announced the finalists Oct. 29. The competition drew 89 submissions from 78 community colleges across 29 states. Thirty programs representing 29 colleges in 16 states advanced to the final round across three categories: Instructional Programs and Services; Workforce Development; and Planning, Governance, and Finance. Finalist status recognizes programs that earned some of the highest scores in the competition’s first round. ICC will compete for the Workforce Development award at the 33rd annual Community College Futures Assembly, scheduled for Feb. 21-23, 2027, in San Antonio. College teams will present their programs to a panel of judges and share how their work addresses critical issues facing community colleges. One winner will be selected in each category, with recipients announced during the event. ICC’s selection places its workforce development efforts among programs recognized nationally for innovation and their response to the needs of employers and the communities they serve. The Community College Futures Assembly convenes annually as an independent national forum to examine challenges facing community colleges and highlight successful approaches that other institutions can adopt.
