General 0 The Itawamba Community College Division of Economic and Community Services is offering an opportunity for individuals to sharpen their skills and learn more about industrial maintenance with a series of short-term classes beginning Aug. 6. Classes meet at the ICC Belden Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. They include Basic Electricity, Aug. 6-20; Advanced Electricity, Aug. 22-Sept. 5; PLC-RSLogix for AB 5/500/MICROLOGIX, Sept. 4-18; Mechanical Drives, Sept. 4-Oct. 4; Fluid Power, Sept. 10-Oct. 8; Electrical Control Systems, Oct. 10-24; Industrial Control Wiring, Oct. 29-Nov. 12; Control Logix System Fundamentals and Programming, Oct. 30-Nov. 13; and Troubleshooting, Nov. 14-Dec. 3. Related Articles ICC offers intersession classes beginning Aug. 2 Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity for students to enroll in four traditional classes during an intersession, which begins Aug. 2 and ends with final examinations on Aug. 13, prior to the beginning of the 2021 fall semester. The schedule includes English Composition I, American Literature I, College Life and Public Speaking I. All classes meet on a Monday through Friday schedule at the Fulton Campus. “Traditionally, ICC has offered classes during an intersession between the conclusion of the spring semester and the beginning of the summer semester,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, vice president of enrollment services. “These classes will enable students to enroll and complete traditional academic classes that are requirements for most associate degree programs in a compacted format. ICC receives $500,000 in grants to enhance Industrial Maintenance and implement Robotics/Automation Control Itawamba Community College has received $500,000 from two grant sources to enhance its Industrial Maintenance associate degree program as well as to implement Robotics and Automation Control Technology at the Belden Center. The grants of $250,000 each were from the Appalachian Regional Commission/Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act – Governor’s Reserve Funds. Administered by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the Governor’s Reserve Funds support employment and training activities. According to Barry Emison, dean of career and technical education, the funds will be used to purchase five Yaskawa robotic trainers and two automated manufacturing simulation trainers. “This will afford ICC students the opportunity to learn the advanced skill sets found in today’s automated manufacturing and distribution facilities.” Emison said that the new program, which is scheduled to begin in August, is expected to increase the number of high-skilled technicians for high-demand jobs in ICC’s five-county service ... The program is designed to help ease the economic burden and uncertainty the pandemic has created for the state’s workforce. ICC is utilizing the resources to enhance or start new workforce development training and/or career education programs that would positively impact underemployed, unemployed, furloughed and/or otherwise displaced individuals who are experiencing economic hardships as a result of COVID-19, said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. ICC has utilized the ReSkill Mississippi funds to create short-term pathway programs in medical administrative assistant, quality improvement associate, introduction to industrial maintenance and electrician assistant. They join a list of 14 other pathway programs, which also offer free tuition opportunities for those who qualify through December. Upskill Mid-South offers possible financial assistance for four ICC short-term traning programs Students who enroll in four short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis. The programs include Electrician Assistant, Welding and Cutting, Commercial Truck Driving and Google IT Support, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education and Career Services. “Upskill Mid-South introduced the initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. The program is designed to address critical workforce needs. Among the Mississippi counties include Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union. “The Itawamba Community College, the University of Memphis and UpSkill Mid-South Partnership offers accelerated job training and education programs to people in the community as well as help finding a job,” said Diane Pabich, director, University of Memphis, Upskill Mid-South program. “Our programs help individuals develop and refine skills that are highly valued in today’s workplace. ICC offers several Healthcare Provider CPR classes Registration is under way for several Healthcare Provider CPR classes at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. Interested individuals can select from classes offered from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on June 20, July 18, Aug. 1 and 15. Participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis due to a limited number for each class. The class is designed for those who need to know how to perform CPR in a healthcare setting and who deal directly with patients in medical settings, both in-hospital and out-of-hospital.
