General 0 Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity to assist prospective students with completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students in ICC’s five-county district can make appointments with a financial aid adviser on designated dates, while home-schooled students and adult learners have an option to sign up on Dec. 16. Appointments, which are scheduled in 30-minute increments, begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. The schedule includes Aberdeen High School, Nov. 6; Amory High School, Dec. 2; Baldwyn High School, Nov. 27, 28; Houston High School, Dec. 11; Itawamba Agricultural High School, Dec. 9; Mantachie High School, Dec. 8; Mooreville High School, Oct. 21; Nettleton High School, Nov. 13; North Pontotoc High School, Oct. 20, Nov. 3; Okolona High School, Nov. 11; Pontotoc High School, Oct. 14; Shannon High School, Dec. 15; South Pontotoc High School, Oct. 22, Nov. 10; and Tupelo Christian Preparatory School, Dec. 8. ICC, Get2College to offer FAFSA assistance at Apr. 26 drive-thru event Students and parents who need assistance with completion of the FAFSA form have an opportunity during a drive-thru event at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus, Apr. 26, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the parking lot beside the Academic and Student Center. Representatives from Get2College and ICC’s Financial Aid office will be available to assist with filing the FAFSA, State Aid application, ICC scholarships and county aid for 2021-22, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. “The event will be primarily to assist students and parents who, due to COVID-19, may not yet be comfortable with coming into the office,” Bland said. Tents will be set up to provide a safe, socially distanced environment. “Even if you do not think you are eligible for a Pell grant, you should still file your FAFSA in order to be considered for emergency funding, which is available from the U.S. Department of Education,” he noted. ICC launches partnership with TimelyMD to connect faculty, staff, students with mental and physical health resources Itawamba Community College has launched a partnership with TimelyMD to connect full-time faculty and currently-enrolled students to the support and resources in both mental and physical health they need to succeed. TimelyCare provides on-demand 24/7 service that offers virtual health and well-being to currently-enrolled students and full-time faculty and staff for free, according to Dr. Brad Boggs, vice president of Student Services, including mental and emotional support, health literacy guidance and crisis management by masters-level behavioral health professionals. “It also provides a dedicated phone line for full-time faculty and staff to reach the TimelyCare team for guidance and support in cases of student distress.” Those covered may choose the visit modality that works best for them - video, phone or video chat. The simple, flexible scheduling enables students to choose their provider, day and time as well as cancel a visit and select the next available time that works best for them. Also, students can choose to add a parent, translator or even an adviser to the conversation. According to TimelyMD, “A modern virtual care platform starts with the technology that ... ICC collaboration provides opportunity for financial assistance for five short-term training programs Students who enroll in five short-term training programs at Itawamba Community College could have the opportunity for financial assistance through Upskill Mid-South, which is a collaboration with the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the University of Memphis. The programs include Commercial Truck Driving, Electrician Assistant, Google IT, Residential Carpentry Assistant and Welding, according to Josh Gammill, director of Continuing Education. “Upskill Mid-South has introduced the new initiative to provide targeted training programs aimed at supporting unemployed and underemployed individuals across a 42-county tristate region,” Gammill noted. The program is designed to address critical workforce needs. Among the Mississippi counties include Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union. “The Itawamba Community College, the University of Memphis and UpSkill Mid-South Partnership offers accelerated job training and education programs to people in the community as well as help finding a job,” said Diane Pabich, director, University of Memphis, Upskill Mid-South program. “Our programs help individuals develop and refine skills that are highly valued in today’s workplace.
