8 May ICC student receives 2024 Mississippi Radiologic Society's scholar's award May 8, 2024 By Thomas, Donna S. General 0 Sydney Wiggins of Caledonia, a student in Itawamba Community College’s Radiologic Technology program, is the recipient of the 2024 Mississippi Radiologic Society’s scholar’s award. At ICC, Wiggins is a member of the Beta Tau Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Her honors include Merit scholarship, president’s list and Outstanding Achievement Award for Radiologic Technology. At East Mississippi Community College, she received the Outstanding Baking and Pastry student award for 2021-22. She serves as a volunteer for numerous church and community events. Her parents are Mitch and Stephanie Wiggins. The purpose of the Mississippi Society of Radiologic Technologists is to advance the profession of Radiologic Sciences disciplines and specialties, maintain high standards of education, enhance the quality of patient care and further the welfare and socioeconomics of Radiologic Technologists. ICC's Nursing students have opportunity to benefit from Women's Foundation of Mississippi grant Students in Itawamba Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs will have an opportunity to benefit from a significant grant from the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi. The $40,000 Access to Opportunity – Training and Graduating a Healthcare Workforce for Mississippi grant will be divided between the ADN and PN programs based on relative program enrollments, said Rilla Jones, dean of Health Science Instruction. This year, 31 ADN and 19 PN students will receive funds. Students in their final year/semester of their nursing program will be informed of this grant during the beginning of the fall semester, Jones said. Those who would like to be considered for the grant will complete an application and sign a consent form for FAFSA data to be accessed. Selection will be based on lowest estimated financial contribution and income level and the most number of dependents. ICC's Colburn to be honored at Mississippi Humanities Council Awards ceremony Christy Colburn of Amory has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2024. Colburn will be among those honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony in March 2024 at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. The event pays tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of the state’s institutions of higher learning. In her 25th year as a music educator, Colburn serves as associate band director at ICC. Her responsibilities include conducting the concert band, applied woodwind studio, mixed woodwind ensemble, Rush Hour Saxophone Quartet, CenterStage show choir and color guard director/choreographer and teaches music appreciation. As needed, she also coaches the Indianettes and the spring pom squad. A graduate of Aberdeen High School, Colburn earned the associate’s degree from ICC and both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of Mississippi. She was color guard captain and choreographer and started the first winter guard at ICC while a student. She held multiple leadership roles while at the University ... Ashlynn Beam receives award Recent Itawamba Community College graduate Ashlynn Beam of Nettleton has received the Mississippi Radiological Society’s student award. At ICC, Beam was named to the President’s List and was the recipient of the 2017 Radiologic Technology award. She attends the Shannon Church of Jesus Christ where she is a praise team member, youth choir director and Bible quizzing coach. She is the daughter of Paul and Tammy Beam. Criteria for selection for the award include high academic achievement, sound moral character and financial need. ICC art students bring home state awards Itawamba Community College art students brought home four awards in this year’s Mississippi Community College State Art Competition hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier. Winners included Camille Campbell of Tupelo, third place and a $50 cash award in the category of Painting for her acrylic painting titled ‘Woman’s Portrait;’ Laken Templeton of Pontotoc, first place and a $100 cash award in Digital Art for her Adobe Illustrator rendering of Michelangelo’s ‘David’ titled ‘Apprehension’ and second place and $75 cash award in 3D-Design for her hand-sewn recreation of ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, a 17th century masterpiece by the Dutch painter Frans Hals; and Mov Etheridge of Baldwyn, honorable mention in 3D-Design for her sculpture ‘Chinese Guitar.’ Other participating ICC art students include Harleigh Roberts of Baldwyn; Raymond Everett of Blue Springs; Jacob Brees of Hernando; Maleigh Collier of Nettleton; Anna Maclaine Griffith, Marlee Schaefer, both of Pontotoc; Katie Pilgrim and Josie Kate Reeves, both of Tupelo.
