General 0 Itawamba Community College will host a Mississippi Highway Patrol C.O.R.E. summer camp tailored for young detectives and aspiring law enforcement officers, July 14-17, at the Fulton Campus for students from sixth to twelfth grades. The camp will delve into crime scene investigations, team building concepts, leadership development, obstacle course training and skills challenges with instruction from experienced professionals. Times are 6th-9th grades, 8-11:30 a.m. and 10th-12th grades, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $100, which includes snacks and a camp shirt. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Auditorium at the Fulton Campus, students leaving the second through eighth grades will take a humorous romp through childhood – looking at some of children’s most challenging moments. During the week, campers will play fun improvisational games like “Give Me Your Best Yucky Food Face” and “Funniest Sleeping Position.” They will make props and pictures to feature in their final program as well as act out and narrate scenes from the following children’s books: I Don’t Want to Get Up by Dr. Seuss, The New Small Child by Lauren Child, Tales for Very Picky Eaters by Josh Sneider, and Alexander, Who’s Not (Do You Hear Me? Registration underway for ICC Summer Band Camp Registration is under way for the 2021 Itawamba Community College Summer Band Camp, which will be June 20-25. The camp is designed for those interested in furthering their music education, strengthening their leadership skills and creating lifelong friendships, according to director Ryan Todd. Since 1981, the camp has hosted more than 16,000 students from all over the United States. It is regarded as one of the finest summer band camps in the Mid-South. Instruction includes general courses for all campers, drum majors, color guard and percussion. The registration deadline is May 15. ICC schedules "Spooktacular," summer drama camp Registration is underway for “Spooktacular,” a summer drama camp at Itawamba Community College, which is scheduled for June 5-9 from 9 a.m.-noon at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus. The camp includes classes and performances focused on such literature as “Creepy Carrots,” “The Jabberwocky,” “Macavity the Mystery Cat” and “What Are You Scared Of.” Students who are leaving second through eighth grade are eligible to participate. ICC to host Summer of Science presentation, Oct. 27 Itawamba Community College will host a Summer of Science presentation, Oct. 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the David C. Cole Student Services Building at the Fulton Campus. The presentation is the culmination of a research project between ICC and Brown University. Funding for this project was made possible by Brown University and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Erica Walker, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Brown University School of Public Health, will be a special guest. She has extensive experience with both environmental exposure assessments and modeling, community surveying and community engagement, focusing on air, noise, visual and water pollution. She practices storm chasing science, which she defines as directing her resources and attention to areas that are typically overlooked. Her credentials include the bachelor’s degree from Simmons University, master’s degree from Tufts University and doctorate from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Student researchers Haley Dean of Saltillo and Rosy Davis of Tupelo will present their research, which is entitled “An Analysis of Black Carbon and PM 2.5 in Tupelo.” The public is invited to attend ... ICC schedules Pixels, Plates and Paints summer camp Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for Pixels, Plates and Paints summer camp for ages 12-15. Sessions include June 22, 8-10 a.m., STEM; July 8, 8-11 a.m., art; July 15, 8-10 a.m., culinary and July 22, 8 a.m.-noon, digital. The focus of the sessions include: STEM – Each group will receive a complete kit to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to assemble a working solar-powered car, which they will also race. Art – Through a hands-on session, participants will learn simple techniques and create their own “masterpieces” to take home. Culinary – Students learn essential kitchen safety and sanitation skills as well as enjoy a hands-on cooking experience with recipes that are simple and fun to recreate at home. Digital – Participants will learn the basics of iPhone photography and videography and take it to the next level by editing videos using a simple Web-based platform. ICC wins national award for manufacturing camp Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs (NBT), the foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, hosted its inaugural awards gala in Fox River Grove, Illinois, October 24, 2019. The event recognized those who share a passion for manufacturing and want to ensure its future with a thriving skilled workforce. At the event, Itawamba Community College (ICC) was awarded the Future of Industry Award for its Tek2Go Advanced Manufacturing Camp. ICC, along with partners Hawkeye Industries and Community Development Foundation (CDF), has hosted the Tek2Go Advanced Manufacturing Camp for students the past 11 years and for teachers the past four years. NBT provided the first grant to get the student camp started in the Tupelo region in 2009. NBT offered an additional grant for the first teacher camp in the summer of 2016. Currently, both camps are funded through the Toyota Wellspring Education Fund and held at the Manufacturing Solutions Center at ICC’s Belden campus. Tek2Go camps are designed for middle school students in grades six through eight and K-12 teachers in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc and Union counties. Participants in both camps ...
