General 0 Registration is under way for the 2021 Itawamba Community College Summer Band Camp, which will be June 20-25. The camp is designed for those interested in furthering their music education, strengthening their leadership skills and creating lifelong friendships, according to director Ryan Todd. Since 1981, the camp has hosted more than 16,000 students from all over the United States. It is regarded as one of the finest summer band camps in the Mid-South. Instruction includes general courses for all campers, drum majors, color guard and percussion. The registration deadline is May 15. During the week, campers will play fun improvisational games like “Give Me Your Best Yucky Food Face” and “Funniest Sleeping Position.” They will make props and pictures to feature in their final program as well as act out and narrate scenes from the following children’s books: I Don’t Want to Get Up by Dr. Seuss, The New Small Child by Lauren Child, Tales for Very Picky Eaters by Josh Sneider, and Alexander, Who’s Not (Do You Hear Me? Competition will begin at 10:15 a.m. The event will provide an opportunity for bands across the Mid-South to perform in both a competitive and educational environment. Adjudicators from across the nation will critique bands, color guard and percussion with the same caption-based criteria used in the MHSAA State Marching Band Championships, according to ICC All-American Band Director Ryan Todd.
