• Mid-South bands to participate in Tomahawk Marching Band Championship at ICC

  Bands from across the Mid-South will participate in Itawamba Community College’s Tomahawk Marching Band Championship, Oct. 14, at Eaton Field/Butch Lambert Stadium at the Fulton Campus. Competition will begin at 10:15 a.m.             The event will provide an opportunity for bands across the Mid-South to perform in both a competitive and educational environment. • ICC hosts MCCAI State Community College Art Competition for first time since 2016

  The work of several Mississippi community colleges is currently on display at Itawamba Community College’s W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center gallery at the Fulton Campus.             ICC is hosting the annual MCCAIA State Community College Art Competition for the first time since 2016.             Participants include Copiah-Lincoln, East Mississippi-Golden Triangle, East Mississippi-Scooba, Hinds-Raymond, Holmes-Ridgeland, ICC, Jones, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northeast, Northwest-Senatobia and Southwest.             Award winners from ICC include Dalton Brandon of Dennis, honorable mention, Ceramics, “The Smiths Dream;” Isaiah Pannell of Pontotoc, second, 2D Design, “Self-Portrait Triptych;” Noah Sartin of Saltillo, second, Painting, “Shadowlands;” Christopher Smith of Shannon, honorable mention, Computer and Graphic Art, “Untitled;” Sydney Ladd of Tupelo, first, 3D Design, “Mouse Attack;” honorable mention, 3D Design, “Guitar;” third, 2D Design, “Contamination;” and Bryan Martinez of Tupelo, honorable mention, Computer and Graphic Art.             Additional ICC participants are Raheim Blanchard of Aberdeen; Kylie Long of Eldridge, Ala.; Reja Anderson of Eupora; Emily Tibbs of Fulton; Ekkaleo Quartey of Jackson; James Lesley, Rebekah Sheffield, both of Mantachie; Josie Warren of Pontotoc; Bryan Martinez of Saltillo; Callie Beasley of Tremont; and Sarah Hippensteel ...
• Mississippi Intercollegiate Honor Band

  Four members of the Itawamba Community College All-American Band will participate in the first Mississippi Intercollegiate Honor Band, Mar. 23-25, at Hinds Community College. They include Yen Nguyen of Amory (flute), Karli Huddleston of Saltillo (flute), Justin Merriman of Houston (clarinet) and Brett Causey of Clinton (alto saxophone). In addition, Macy Gibson of Pontotoc (flute) was selected as first alternate. Auditions were open to all two- and four-year college band students (freshman through senior level) regardless of major. The clinician will be emeritus professor Ray Cramer from Indiana University Bloomington. He is president of the Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra convention with more than 14,000 attendees representing 28 countries and was recently named president of the American Bandmasters Association. He is the past president of the College Band Directors National Association and the Indiana Bandmasters Association. Cramer is in demand internationally as guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, and he is a regular guest conductor of the Musashino Academy of Music Wind Ensemble in Tokyo.
• All-American Band auditions

  The Itawamba Community College All-American Band has scheduled auditions for Apr. 13 at the Fulton Campus. Locations and times include Drum Major (W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center), 2 p.m.; Color Guard (Fitness Center gym) and Indianettes (W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center), both at 3:30 p.m. Drum major auditions will include salute, two-to-three minutes of routine demonstrating drum major abilities, marching ability, vocal commands and conducting various time signatures. Those who audition for color guard must demonstrate basic maneuvers on equipment (spins, tosses, etc.), marching ability and the ability to learn and perform a short flag routine taught at the audition. Participants must bring their own flag. Indianette participants must demonstrate flexibility (splits, kicks, etc.) and the ability to learn and perform a short routine taught at the audition. • Registration underway for ICC Summer Band Camp

              Registration is under way for the 2021 Itawamba Community College Summer Band Camp, which will be June 20-25.             The camp is designed for those interested in furthering their music education, strengthening their leadership skills and creating lifelong friendships, according to director Ryan Todd. Since 1981, the camp has hosted more than 16,000 students from all over the United States. • Concert bands to perform Apr. 9

             Itawamba Community College’s Concert Bands will perform at 6:30 p.m., Apr. 9, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus.             The Concert Band’s program includes “Joy” by Frank Ticheli, “Spania” by David Shaffer, “Meeting at Tryon Palace” by Richard L. Saucedo and “Concerto Gross” arranged by James D. Ployhar. Selections for the Wind Ensemble are “Festival Sinfonia” by Roland Barrett, “Shenandoah – A Sea Fantasy” by Claude Smith, “Sevens” by Samuel R. Hazo, “By the Grindstone” by Ryan Todd; and “Fairest of the Fair” by John P. Sousa. The Symphonic Band will perform “An American Fanfare” by Rick Kirby, “In a Quiet Place” by Bill Calhoun and “Relativo” by Robert W.
