General 0 Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin soon. They include SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course, Jan. 28; Certified Nursing Assistant, Feb. 1; and Human Resources Assistant, Feb. 18. The SHRM-Certified Professional Exam Prep Course will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The program is designed for current HR professionals who would like to advance their careers by earning the nationally-recognized SHRM-CP credential to be recognized as industry experts and viewed as valuable assets to their organization. The curriculum used in this course is the Society for Human Resource Management 2020 Learning System, which provides an in-depth overview of the knowledge and industry expertise needed to sit for and pass the SHRM-CP certification exam. Key topics include behavioral competencies and technical knowledge. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful program and examination completion, employment could be available in nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Human Resources Assistant meets Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The program prepares individuals as an assistant to work closely with their human resources supervisor to perform routine personnel-related, recruitment and/or onboarding work. This program is ideal for someone who would like to enter the human resources and/or talent management field. The Society for Human Resource Management Essentials of Human Resources, which is the curriculum used, provides an introductory overview of key HR topics and the fundamental issues surrounding HR to help the individual effectively approach the daily issues and situations presented on the job. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Food Service Pathway and Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 1-17, from 5-9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the examination, nursing assistants can find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a CNA provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession. Food Service Pathway will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Aug. 31-Sept. 25. The class includes proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices and culinary techniques. Students will receive hands-on instruction, internships with local restaurants and an opportunity to build their résumé, enhance their interview skills and attain ServeSafe® certification and ServeSafe® Alcohol certification. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Aug. 10 (Monday, Wednesday – 5-9 p.m.); Phlebotomy Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5:30-9:30 p.m.); Pharmacy Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.); Emergency Medical Technician, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5-10 p.m.); Business Office Specialist, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 5:30-9:30 p.m.); Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.); and Basics of Residential Wiring, Aug. 11 (Tuesday, Thursday, 6-9 p.m.) ICC’s pathway programs are designed to prepare individuals with the high-performance skills necessary to enter the job market or to transition to an advanced related program at the College. They include Residential Wiring, Small Engine Repair Technician and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Residential Wiring meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Mar. 9. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use. Small Engine Repair Technician meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Apr. 6. Upon successful completion of the 16-session program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair shop or to open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination. They include Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Commercial Truck Driving begins Mar. 29 and meets Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. The Food Service Pathway class will begin Mar. 22 and meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Belden Center.
