General 0 Registration is underway for three pathway programs, which will begin soon at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. They include Certified Nursing Assistant, Food Service Pathway and Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification. Certified Nursing Assistant will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 1-17, from 5-9 p.m. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the examination, nursing assistants can find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a CNA provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession. Food Service Pathway will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Aug. 31-Sept. 25. The class includes proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices and culinary techniques. Students will receive hands-on instruction, internships with local restaurants and an opportunity to build their résumé, enhance their interview skills and attain ServeSafe® certification and ServeSafe® Alcohol certification. Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification will begin Aug. 31, and classes will meet Mondays through Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Oct. 22. The MSBC program is designed to prepare students desiring a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. The program enables participants to use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and earn nationally-recognized credentials. Comprehensive interactive classes, computer-based tools, experienced instructors and excellent reference materials create a valuable training experience. Students will learn how to read a caliper, micrometer and blueprint drawing; learn how to perform CPR; what companies do to improve and ensure safety, productivity and quality of the processes and products and improve their computer skills. ICC’s pathway programs are designed to prepare individuals with the high-performance skills necessary to enter the job market or to transition to an advanced related program at the College. They include Electrician Assistant, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Electrician Assistant will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Feb. 29. The program prepares individuals to work closely with their supervising electrician to perform routine electrical work. It provides the foundational knowledge of basic math and basic safety rules; the use of hand, measuring and power tools; basic electricity and residential wiring. Students can also prepare for entry-level jobs in industry or private businesses. Cost is $370. In the 16-session Small Engine Repair pathway, students prepare for a career as they develop skills in basic maintenance, recoil systems, fuel systems, ignition systems/electrical circuits and disassembling and rebuilding small engines. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use. They include Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Commercial Truck Driving begins Mar. 29 and meets Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. The Food Service Pathway class will begin Mar. 22 and meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Belden Center.
